A few news and notes around the Internet concerning some of the draft prospects I thought were worth mulling over a little bit.

Joe Mather is on a tear as of late, and what the heck is going on with Kenny Maiques?

J.J. Cooper puts together the Indy League All Star team, a compilation of independent leaguers who either began their careers in the indy leagues or were found in indy ball after being released from A ball or below. The reason it make mention of it is current Cardinal Josh Kinney and former Cardinal Jason Simontacchi [...]

The next edition of “Three up, three down” should be up tomorrow. I’ve been a little busy lately so I haven’t really had time to put together any midday post ideas. So when in doubt, why not do a prospect ranking? The lazy bloggers’ way out! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve taken some time and [...]

Happy Mother’s day. Sorry for the delayed post, WordPress had some maintenance issues last night.
Moves confirmed: Isaias Garcia and Steve Hill were sent to AA, Luke Gorsett, Josh Dew and AJ Van Slyke are on their way down to Palm Beach.
How’s Trey Hearne been doing in Mexico? Well, tonight he threw 7 innings of one [...]

This is an Izzy free zone. Happy thoughts. (I do feel for the guy, though. As much as we get riled up over these sorts of things as fans, I don’t think anyone on the team who feels worse over failure then Izzy. No matter what happens to him between now and when he hangs [...]

Jeff Luhnow, Vice President, Amateur Scouting and Player Development, in the midst of preparing for the draft and the dozens of other things that come with his hectic job, was kind enough to do a little Q and A with me over email. Thanks go to out to him for his thoughtful answers. Enjoy.

This mock draft I’m doing a little “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” version of the draft. The past two weeks I’ve heard different rumors on where certain prospects may land, what team is hot for what player, etc. in another Sisyphean attempt at the mock draft. Oh, the mock draft. How it mocks me.

Jeff Luhnow was on Bernie Miklasz’s radio show, and highlights are posted here. A little sneak preview: Luhnow also was nice enough to agree to do some Q and A with me concerning some prospects and the upcoming draft, so be on the lookout for that later this week or so.
All sorts of draft stuff [...]

(No Three Up, Three Down today. I’m thinking it will work better as a bi-weekly series.)
Admittedly, I haven’t quite jumped on the whole Pitch F/X bandwagon quite yet. It does make for a more enjoyable experience when you’re stuck in one of the MLB.tv’s (EXTREMELY STUPID) blackout zones. I can listen to Shannon and Rooney [...]

Let’s just me get this out of the way: SKIP!!! He’s never been my favorite player, but since 2007 he’s been different. I’ve read different things about him the past couple of offseasons, about him working with Mark McGwire and about him doing insane workout routines during the winter. Whatever it is, he’s establishing him [...]

Another idea I cooked up was having a monthly look at various stats. Nothing really orderly, just random statistical info on players. Thanks go to firstinning.com and baseball-reference.com.
Here’s the most hideous stat of the month is that Colby Rasmus has made 89 outs, tied for the 2nd most in all the minors, and just one [...]
