• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Prospect Report 6/24/08

Someone tell me if the site looks right to you. I don’t know if it’s WordPress or my computer but the right sidebar is missing. (update-I figured out what was causing the problem.)

Luhnow was on hand for last night’s game at the QC, and he talks a bit with the local press about the direction of the farm system. He also notes that he expect Wallace to be signed within the next week.

A couple of noteworthy tidbits-

Springfield was off tonight.

Blake King was moved up to Palm Beach.

Tyler Henley and Gary Daley are both rehabbing in the Gulf Coast League. Henley tripled today, and Daley still can’t throw strikes.

Tyler Norrick is back in Palm Beach. Unfortunately the results weren’t pretty. That’ll come after the jump.

Memphis 8, Nashville 6

Colby Rasmus 0-for-2, 3 BB.
Joe Mather 4-for-5, HR.
D’Angelo Jimenez, Rico Washington both 2-for-5, HR.
Brad Thompson 4 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HR.
Matt Clement 1 IP, 1 H, 1 K.
Mark Worrell 1 IP, 0 H, 1 K, SV.

They are officially pitching around Colby now, but the problem with that is he’s followed by Joe Mather. Mather’s HR was his 14th of the season.  I have to believe Brad Thompson is on his last leg with the club. He had his moments, but without his sinker, the puppy kicker is sunk. :rimshot:. It looks like Worrell is taking over the closer duties unless I’m missing something. And is Matt Clement being groomed for middle relief? I suppose he can’t be much worse than Mike Parisi. :cheapshot:

Palm Beach 3, Fort Myers 1 (7 innings, game 1 of a doubleheader)

Daryl Jones 3-for-3, 2B.
Brad Furnish 6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K.
Francisco Samuel 1 IP, 1 H, 2 K.

Daryl Jones-where tools and skills collide. That felt good to say. Brad Furnish by by all accounts had a great game, but his K/9 rate for A+ is less than impressive at 5.38. The lack of missed bats is pretty disconcerting. 12 of his outs were on fly balls.

Palm Beach 3, Fort Myers 6 (game 2, 7 innings)

Tyler Norrick 1.1 IP, 4 ER, 4 BB, 0 K.
Eddie Degerman 3.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K.
Arnoldi Cruz 2-for-4, 2B, HR, 3 RBI.
Donovan Solano 2-for-4.
James Rapoport 2-for-4.
Daryl Jones 1-for-3, HBP, SB.

Not a great comeback for Norrick, who is coming back from tendinitis in his left shoulder.
Jones’ steal was his 14th of the year. Not a bad night for Degerman, but I’ve sort of given up on him as a prospect. I mean, he’s going to be 25 soon has 7 BB/9 rate. He’s pretty nifty with his funky delivery and all, but if he can’t throw strikes then, well…

Kane County 7, Quad Cities 1

Adron Chambers 2-for-4, 3B.
Matt Arburr 1-for-3, HR, BB.
Nicholas Additon 4.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 3 K.

El bullpen fue basura! I’ll refer you to Ben Chiswick for the gory details. The speedy Chambers was also picked off at 1B, caught napping by KC’s catcher. Domnit Bolivar picked up his 19th error. Arburr’s HR was his 10th of the season.

Batavia 2, Jamestown 1

Jose Garcia 2-for-3, error.
Angel Tapia 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1 HR.
Scott Gorgen 2 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K.
Adam Reifer 1 IP, 1 H, 1 K.

Nothing much going on offensively, 7 hits, all singles and Garcia was the only player to have a multi-hit game. I’m happy to see Gorgen get off on the right foot.

Johnson City 6, Greenville 0

Niko Vasquez 2-for-4, 2 2B, 1 BB, 3 RBI.
Joseph Hage 3-for-5, SB, CS.
Curt Smith 1-for-4, HR.
Edgar Lara 2-for-3, 2B, BB.
Matthew North 5 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, WP, balk, 5 K. 7 ground outs, 2 air outs.
Jonny Bravo 3 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 6 K.

Not only does Bravo have a cool name, but he’s only 5′7. As someone who also is vertically challenged, I can’t help but to root for him. The lefty from Azusa Pacific has 12 K’s in 6 innings in his two appearances. I loved the Niko Vasquez pick on draft day, and in the early going I have to say I’m loving it even more. Niko is hitting .364/.462/.500 through six games.

  1. So if I go see Batavia play next week, who should I be interested in/excited to see?

  2. Batavia eh? Let me know what you think of Shane Peterson’s hitting mechanics and whether or not you think it’ll translate to big league success, avg. and power. From what I’ve seen he’s a rather odd duck. Xavier Avery was a top 200 draft prospect ranked by Baseball America. He’s a power hitter but has gotten off to a slow start. Reifer is their closer and has at points in his career hit 96. He’s been on the shelf for a while, I’d like to hear where his velo. is at. Let us know what you think of RF Jon Edwards. He hasn’t cracked short season ball and he’s been in the system going on 3 years, but he is supposed to have loads of power.

I’d love to hear about any of the starters, but hopefully you get to see Lynn or Gorgen. I’d like to hear where Gorgen’s fastball is at, because I’ve heard conflicting reports. Kulik was an 8th rounder, lefty, murdered Div. III. Love to hear your thoughts on him. I’m sure Liam would love you forever if you can get any info/pics on Jamison Maj.

Anyway, there’s your list. Take some pics/video if you can and be sure to share!

  3. I am Realy rooting for Jonny Bravo to. I know it’s a small sample size but he is perfect when facing left handers. And would just love to see a 5′7″ Leffty coming in for the right handed 6′7″ Adam Wainwright.

  4. the sidebar is gone

  5. Matt North with two solid outings to start the season. Has anyone seen him pitch, or know what his stuff is like?

  6. well all of a sudden its back….but on the front page it was there, just at the bottom of the page…..

As for Bravo, its impossible to not like this guy. His name, his size, and his performance thus far have turned him into the ultimate underdog to root for. Just wonder if he’ll start.

  7. Gorgen was 88-91 today. Threw 30 pitches about 50% off speed. Change-up was good.

  8. Erik,

The sidebar is not showing on the main page, but does show up anytime you navigate away from the main page. Hope that helps. Ie - clicking on your name opened up this page and the right sidebar showed up. Also, clicking on the “read more” link for the main article - the right sidebar showed up.

  9. On Clement - the St Louis paper pretty much indicated after Clement’s last less than impressive start, he was being relegated to a middle relief role.

  10. The sidebar is fine on this page, but on the home page it has somehow been moved to below the main body.

  11. I say its the red barons fault, it started when he got added. Kick his a$$ out.

Im only kidding, good stuff on wallace TRB.

  12. I’m experiencing the same thing as TaiwanGuy. I’m also using Kontact for my browser.

  13. The right sidebar is all the way at the bottom of the middle pane on the main page and where it is supposed to be in the post itself.

  14. The main page is missing a >/div< tag for the >div class=”wrapper”<.

Hopefully those square brackets show up properly.

  15. Well, it’s a WordPress template and I don’t have any admin control over it. But they are giving me another reason to host my own site! I sent an email, hopefully they will let me know what to do in order to fix it, or fix it themselves. Thanks guys. I moved the comments widget to the left so you can still prominently see it on the homepage.

  16. Arburr might be dangerous if he put the bat on the ball a little more. That is a horrendous K rate.

Consider me firmly on the Niko Vasquez bus.

And good to see Mather still raking. TLR is going to have OPTIONS in that outfield come September. He’ll have about every make and manner of chess piece to play with. You assume Ras is coming up. Stavi and Joey Bombs added to the current usual suspects. Matchup heaven for him.

  17. Happy Birthday to two of the Palm Beach outfielders - Daryl Jones turns 21 today and Jim Rapoport turns 23.

  18. Heading to the Texas League all-star game tonight.

  19. DJ needs to get bumped up to AA.

  20. Re: Wallace. The Luhnow article reports that he “hopes” Wallace will be signed next week. In my book, “hopes” is not the same as “expects.” Since there are no quotation marks around “expects,” there is no telling which word–if either–Luhnow actually used. I can only “hope” Wallace is signed sooner rather than later.

  21. when i say hope, i don’t mean wishy washy hope like wishing. i mean expect. call it quirky, i guess in my own mind i put my own defininition in the writing.

  22. D.Jones is only 21??

I’m even more excited about him now.

  23. Last year at a game here in the QC a scout told me about Edgar Lara and said to keep an eye on him. He’s raw but he will turn into something special. Since I’ve noticed his name showing up in the DFR’s I was wondering if anyone had anymore info on this young man and if they agree with what the scout said?

  24. I’ve just heard Lara has plus raw power, that’s about all I know.
