• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Farm Report 6/9/08

The interweb is atwitter with the injury to Adam Wainwright. My money is on ruptured tendon a la Joel Zumaya. There’s not a lot of news from the minors so we’ll get right to the DFR. QC get’s rained out (or just a soggy field); they’re supposed to make up the game on Wednesday from today but I’m not sure when the game that was suspended will be resumed (if at all).

Memphis 3, Iowa 6 (8 innings)

  • The Memphis game was called short on account of rain.
  • Colby Rasmus and Chris Duncan each recorded a double for their only hits.
  • David Freese hit a solo shot off of former Redbirds Andy Cavazos.
  • Gabe Johnson was 1-for-2 with a walk.
  • Brad Thompson wasn’t very good in his first rehab start. He went 3.2 innings allowing 5 runs (4 earned). He struck out 2 and walked 1 but was bit by a solo and 2-run HR. Thompson did record 9 groundball outs. Thompson needs to get on track quickly because if the young-uns continue to play the way they have after callups he’s gonna get squeezed out of a roster spot real quick.
  • Hugo Castellanos helped Thompson out stranding 2 baserunners. He threw 3.1 innings allowing 2 hits and 2 runs (1 earned).

Springfield 2, Arkansas 12

  • Jon Jay was 2-for-4.
  • Brandon Yarbrough was 3-for-4 with a double.
  • Mark McCormick got shelled. Badly. He only recorded 5 outs allowing a 8 runs (including a 2-run HR and a grand slam). He walked 4 and struck out 3 but I’m not sure that could be an uglier box line.
  • Kyle Sadlowski pitched well allowing 5 hits over 3.1 innings and just a solo HR.
  • Josh Dew threw 2 scoreless innings striking out 1 and walking 1.
  • Marco Gonzalez was pretty bad over the last two innings allowing 3 runs. Gopheritis was a common inflammation among the Cardinal relievers as Gonzalez gave up a 2-run bomb as well.

Palm Beach 2, Clearwater 1

  • Antonio DeJesus was 0-for-2 with a pair of walks.
  • Andrew Brown was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks. He’s a big part of the PBC’s success this season. He’s hitting .333/.417/.560 in 84 at bats after beating up on low A pitchers as well.
  • The big news of course is Isringhausen. Just to be clear, Izzy was not DL’d because of a physical injury. The hand laceration was a convenient way to give him some time to straighten out the real problem (be that mental or mechanical). I’m not deriding the Front Office for the injury high-jinks ;it happens all the time on every club in baseball. Anywho, Izzy allowed 1 hit and struck out 1 over 2 innings. He had 2 groundouts to 3 flyouts (one flyout was an out to the SS. . .more of a pop up).
  • Brandon Dickson came on in “relief” and hurled 6 innings of 3-hit ball. He walked 1 and struck out 1.
  • Francisco Samuel allowed a run in the process of picking up his 11th save. He allowed 2 hits and struck out 1 as well.

  1. Rasmus did get robbed of a homer by Felix Pie.

  2. Hey Dew got moved back thats good for him.

  3. Any info yet on who gets called up to replace WW?

  4. brett wallace hit a homerun, but arizona state was eliminated tonight. i would think he would be a pretty quick sign, but we will see. i would be surprised if we don’t see him in game action before the end of the month.

  5. Bill, Pineiro’s coming off of the DL, so nobody will come up from AAA yet. However, if Wainwright ends up missing serious time, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Garcia get the call.

  6. Wallace also duked it out with Ike Davis pregame. He isnt even signed yet and he already shows a hatred for anything met related. Ike was drafted by the Mets a few picks after us.

  7. Wallace and Davis reportedly were joking, trying to loosen up the team. I don’t buy it still.

With them losing, Wallace ended up tying Barry Bonds with 45 career HRs. Good thing he didn’t hit any more, otherwise he might have been tied with Mike Kelly or, worst sign of all, Bob Horner.

  8. Did anyone notice whether Russell and/or Stutes, the two 2007 top ten picks who didn’t sign with the Cards, was even drafted this year? Russell may well have pulled himself out of the draft, but Stutes was a senior.

  9. Russell got drafted around the 5th round - I think by the Dodgers. Stutes was drafted by the Phillies, I don’t remember what round.

  10. Russell was picked by the Dodgers.

  11. Russell went in the third round and was viewed as being very signable. . .probably because he performed well below expectations and struggled with the wood bat last summer. That’s $1 mil I’m glad we didn’t spend. He has been quoted as saying he’s ready to begin his pro career now and is not going back to Texas.

  12. Russell was drafted in the third round, Stutes in the 11th. Russell may make slightly more money per “slot” if he signs this year, Stutes slightly less. It’s credible that Russell won’t sign but rather roll the dice one more time, as his performance this year definitely didn’t enhance his prospects for getting the big contract he wants.

  13. Does Anthony Reyes get a chance if these injuries to Wellemeyer and Wainwright are long term problems? I understand that the organization has somewhat moved on from him, but we know Parisi isn’t the answer and Garcia might not be ready. I am anxious to see Boggs tonight. Tough ballpark to pitch your first game in the majors.

  14. Does Brett Wallace become one of the top five prospects for the Cardinals after this year?
    Mike from Fenton, Mo.

I absolutely think he will be. I don’t think there are too many systems he wouldn’t be. There aren’t many bats as good as what Wallace brings to the table.

  15. McCormick = not a starting pitcher. Period. I say move him to relief full-time and see how he responds.

Garcia, because he’s such a groundball pitcher (his most recent start notwithstanding), may be even *more* successful at the MLB level than the minors, due to (vastly?) superior infield defense. Hey, it happened for Brandon Webb. ;)

I’d love to see Jaime get a call-up pronto.

  16. Bob, the way Dave Duncan was talking today he might be pitching for StL this week.

  17. For the record, is it Jay-me Garcia or Hi-me Garcia?

Now that that is out there. I hope he does well if called up. Great to have arms ready in Memphis that aren’t named Cavazos and Jiminez.

  18. Its pronounced Hi-me

  19. Hi-May, the e isnt long its short
