Scott Gorgen, RHP, UC Irvine
Sorry if the content isn’t quite up to snuff, I’m just trying to keep up. I’m getting pretty zonked here, but I’m up for 2 more rounds.
I actually like Gorgen quite a bit. His twin brother Matt is the closer for Cal, but he’s considered the best prospect of the two. He throws a 88-92 MPH sinker, a sharp curveball and a plus change that has splitter movement. He’s another “results” guy, with 115 K’s in 109 innings, with just 36 BB and 7 HR allowed. Gorgen also gets rave reviews for his makeup and poise. The knock on Gorgen is his George Costanza body. (5-10, 200) Yes, these Birds won’t be selling jeans. But I like this pick.

If they can get results from these BIG guys then i wont complain at all.
Great work, im sure its tiring. Do your fingers hurt yet. Is your mouse smoking. If so please consult tech support in New Dehli.
I hereby dub this the Sir Mix-A-Lot draft
Pick 155 is Jermaine Curtis, 3B UCLA.
has Putnam (of Michigan, I think)been taken yet?
Or me, my grad degree is electronics cooling essentially :p
I don’t mind the pick, but I think he’s gonna fail miserably. Results are there, but I really don’t see them translating.
Curtis’s swing reminds me a bit of Soriano’s, but it’s hard to succeed with a swing that long; Soriano is the exception. I know the scouts say his arm won’t play at third, but I’m hoping that first throw in the scouting video is just an optical illusion, because that looks like a throw Eckstein would laugh at. The rest of his throws don’t look anything like that.
No, Putnam is still there, oddly enough.
UC Davis?
typo…
Gorgen’s been filthy at UCI, and you guys better enjoy him!
Yeah, he’s small, and that might not translate well to the majors, but his stuff is wicked and in the big games he’s composed as hell.
Irvine’s still in the tourney, and Gorgen’s pitching Saturday against a power hitting LSU, in case you’re interested in seeing your new prospect.
