• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Farm Report - 6/5/08

The worst part of the draft for me is the wait between draft day and when we actually get to see these guys in uniform for the system. It was a long first day and I would like to extend thanks and congratulations to Erik - he worked hard all day long in providing us [...]

Day 1, brief recap

Wow. I’m really zonked. Who knew that the draft could be so exhausting? Thanks everyone for tuning in, this was far and away the most trafficked day in FR history. I was trying to keep with it all, so sorry if the quality of content wasn’t quite up to snuff. Here are my meaningless, off-the-cuff [...]

Eric Fornataro?

Who?

With 125…

3B Jermaine Curtis, UCLA. Like the rest of his team, Curtis has been a disappointment this year. Blah. Wither Putnam??????

Scott Gorgen

Scott Gorgen, RHP, UC Irvine
Sorry if the content isn’t quite up to snuff, I’m just trying to keep up. I’m getting pretty zonked here, but I’m up for 2 more rounds.
I actually like Gorgen quite a bit. His twin brother Matt is the closer for Cal, but he’s considered the best prospect of the [...]

And with 125…

Scott Gorgen, RHP, UC Irvine. Another pick I really like. I’ve been a fan of Gorgen for a while. He gets flack for his lack of size, but he’s got good stuff. He’s another sinkerballer, and he has one of the best changeups in this draft. Good pick.

Melville finally goes

The MLB.com guys just said Melville sent out a letter telling teams not to draft him, that he is going to college. That explains a lot. The Royals obviously are willing to take their chances.

Niko Vasquez

Niko Vasquez, SS, Durango HS, Las Vegas, NV (video)
Yes, he does come from the same HS as Tommy Pham. I like this pick here, much better than the Peterson pick. Vasquez was ranked by Keith Law the 38th best draft prospect overall, BA ranked him 65th. He profiles as a #5-6 hitter. He may not [...]

And at 91, the Cardinals select…

SS Niko Vasquez. Great pick here!

Shane Peterson

This is like Jon Jay part 2, minus the speed and more K’s. Peterson has hit for average and has a patient approach, but he doesn’t hit for a lot of power. In a tough, pitcher friendly conference, Peterson hit .390/.506/.582. He’s a quirky, unorthodox hitter, like Jay. BA ranked him their #75 overall prospect. [...]

And at 59 the Cardinals pick…

Shane Peterson, OF/1B Long Beach….Still no Melville. Something is up…even the Dodgers passed on him, who seem to be pretty heavy on HS players from Missouri.
Scouting report per BA:
Peterson is the top prospect on a talent-laden Long Beach State squad which could have six players drafted in the first 10 rounds. Peterson’s strong, mature body [...]

These aren’t your daddy’s Buccos

Wow. Tanner Scheppers. Gutsy move. I like it a lot.
