• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Farm Report 5/4/2008

Quite the tumultuous few days in Cardinal Farmland. Parisi to the bigs. Garcia to Memphis. Reyes to Memphis. Herron to Springfield. Walters to Memphis to help with a double header. Todd is headed to Springfield on Wednesday (probably). Rauschenberger is going to take Ottavino’s place in the Springfield rotation. Got all that? Good.

Derrick Goold takes a look at the 2004 draft class again. Salt meet wound. A note at the bottom, and it could be that I was napping previously and missed this, says that Mike Sillman had TJ surgery this season. He was another sidearming righthander similar to Mark Worrell.

The high minors win while the low minors lose. Meanwhile, my Colby Rasmus concern level is slowly starting to rise. Call it mild concern right now.

Memphis 4, Colorado Springs 3

  • (This game is the conclusion of the suspended 5/2 game).
  • Colby Rasmus was 3-for-4 with a double.
  • Nick Stavinoha was 2-for-4.
  • Mitchell Boggs went 3 innings on the 2nd and John Wasdin took over in the 4th for him today. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and a walk while striking out 3 over 4 innings.
  • Chris Perez closed the game out with a 1 hit, 1 K 9th.

Memphis 3, Colorado Springs 2 (7 innings)

  • Rasmus went o-for-3.
  • Joe Mather went 1-for-2 with a walk and chugged out a triple.
  • Uncle Rico Washington supplied the boom with a 2-for-3 night and a homerun.
  • PJ Walters had some positives and negatives in his Memphis debut. He went 5 innings and struck out 4 against 1 walk. Positive. He recorded 5 outs on the ground and 6 in the air. Nuetral. He allowed 7 hits including a double and two solo homeruns. Negative. Still not a bad start for Walters and way too early to read anything into his ability to retire AAA hitters.
  • Mark Worrell and Jason Motte each threw a scoreless inning striking out 2. Motte picked up the win.

Springfield 8, Arkansas 3

  • Brandon Yarbrough led off tonight (I’m surprised too) and went 2-for-4 with a walk.
  • Jon Jay was 2-for-3 with a walk.
  • Allen Craig was 1-for-4 with a double. He’s hitting .270/.336/.434 on the season after a dreadful start.
  • Tyler Greene was 1-for-4 with a HR. He’s still got pop and he still can’t make consistent contact.
  • Tyler Herron had an iffy debut in Springfield as well. He lasted 3.2 innings, striking out 4 and walking just 1. Much like Walters, he was hurt by the double and HR among the 5 hits he allowed for 3 ER.
  • Bob Zimmerman picked up the win with 2.1 scoreless innings that included 3 walks.

Palm Beach 1, Sarasota 2

  • An ugly offensive showing for Palm Beach. They recorded 4 hits and just one for extra bases (Nathan Southard’s double). They also walked just 3 times so they weren’t on base often.
  • Brandon Dickson went 6 innings allowing 5 hits, 1 unearned run and struck out 2.
  • Kenny Maiques may be close to righting the ship. He pitched a perfect 9th striking out 2.

Quad Cities 0, West Michigan 4

  • QC got 3 hit by Detroit’s Alfredo Figaro. He tossed a complete game with 11 Ks and not a single damn walk.
  • Needless to say our offense sucked. Mike Folli went 2-for-4 and sucked the least.
  • Shaun Garceau allowed 1 hit and 1 unearned run over 3 innings while striking out 1.
  • Brian Broderick got touched up for 2 runs in 5 innings on 4 hits.

Non-baseball things I learned this weekend: 1) Bud Light Lime is something I will be recommending to friends and 2) Iron Man was a kickass movie. Very kickass.

  1. Bud Light Lime? Really? You’ve sold me, sir. I’ll give it a try.

  2. i thought rasmus looked pretty good yesterday. he went 2-5 on the day, and one of the hits was a line drive smash up the middle.

  3. From the looks of the box score, Figaro pitched a great game, and props to him for that.

But he turns 24 on July 7, so he’s 2-3 years older than the guys he was shutting down.

  4. You know, I keep hearing good things from everyone I know about the Bud Light Lime, but I’m also hearing it doesn’t really make sense as a Bud Light product. It seems more like a premium, Michelob label product. Eh, whatever. I’ll be giving it a try quite soon, you may rest assured.

I’m very glad to see Maiques looking as if he may just get this thing figured out. I really, really like the kid, and he was looking more and more like a minor league Ankiel story. Hopefully it was just some mechanics issues.

  5. I really really really was hoping to get to Iron Man, I’ll have to either get a sitter or just go by myself and see it soon.

  6. Lou-

I just started the stage 1 program from the NROL Women’s book last week with my girlfriend and it is pretty much kicking my ass. I have lifted for fifteen years, so this is pretty amusing to my GF. All the compound lower body exercises…ugh!

    RB-

We will have to see if Maiques has it figured out, I am really curious to see if his velocity dropped any. It could be a sign that he is gripping the ball a little tighter or making some other compensation instead of a true mechanical fix.

  7. Two Things:

    1. Go see Iron Man. Other than batman, its the best superhero movie to come out. Yes, its better than all the spidermans and is not as cheesey. I was surprised to the point of being blown away.

    2. I would be really worried about colby except for the fact that our outfield is looking pretty strong right now. If we had an awful outfield and we needed help, i would be concerned with colby’s progression into triple-a. However, if it takes him an extra season in triple-a to get things together, so be it. I’d rather him be ready then rush him into a situation where we don’t necessarily need his help.

  8. ‘Iron Man’ definitely rocks. I had high expectations and it met all of them. And if you’re a Marvel geek, make sure you stay until the credits end.

In an interesting turn of events, the Memphis rotation next week could include Mulder, Reyes, Thompson, and Garcia. That ain’t a bad 1-4… throw Walters into the mix and they should have a solid next couple of weeks, at least.

  9. P.S. - If Thompson comes off the DL, that is.

  10. What is up with Ottavino? Why is he missing another start?

  11. Ottavino is headed to the DL with “shoulder stiffness”.

  12. speaking of Bud Light lime. Have you seen A&Bs commercial for it?

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=VH4SRd0w53I

  13. BigJawn, you’ll be surprised at how your body reacts to all those lower-body exercises. When I test-drove the programs a couple years ago, I started seeing muscles I didn’t realize I had.

  14. Just saw Chuckie Fick was promoted out of extended to QC.

That dude was easily the biggest surprise for me of the 2007 draftees last year.

  15. Mulder, Reyes, Thompson, and Garcia all in the AAA rotation?

    Mulder= Former Ace rehabbing
Reyes= Prospect who can’t figure it out
Thompson= Back of the rotation filler
Garcia= Prospect who is the hope for the future

That starts to look like a decent major league rotation for a second division club.

  16. What scares me about Rasmus is his line drive percentage is only 5%. That means something is drastically wrong with his swing.

  17. Jamie — that is a sweet commercial. I hadn’t seen that before. Thanks for the link.

  18. AZ, Ottavino will be pitching saturday the 10th. The Cardinals are being very cautious with him. He had adhesive capsulitis, which is basically just really bad inflammation in his shoulder.
