Jaime Garcia to Memphis

As noted in the comments of yesterday’s DFR, Kary Booher confirms that Garcia is headed up to Memphis.

For the record, that’s twice this season commenter cardsfan1 has broken the news of Springfield promotions in our comments (with Bryan Anderson being the first about a week back).  I’d guess that either Castellanos is headed back to the Memphis pen or John Wasdin is going to be released.  No word on who is headed to Springfield yet (Herron, Kopp and Todd all seem like reasonable guesses).

  1. well according to the memphis announcers today wasdin is going to take over for boggs tomorrow in the suspended game. after that who knows.

  2. Congrats to Mr. Garcia! I’ve seen him in person three different times, and each time I’ve come away with the same feeling; that this is a pitcher who’s being far underestimated, and has the stuff to not just pich in the big leagues, but make a huge impact.

Between Garcia, Mortensen, and Kopp, I think the Cardinals have three potential impact arms coming very soon. Really, considering what Tyler Herron is doing this season with his walk rates, I may have to revise that to four. I’ve been lower than some others on Herron; it now appears I may be underestimating him. I certainly hope that proves to be the case.

  3. rb,

Don’t forget about Todd! His future may still be as a power reliever/setup guy, but still… Worst case, can you imagine Todd and Motte setting up Perez? Holy frijoles, Batman!

  4. And rumor has it PJ Walters, the really forgotten man, will be pitching in Memphis tomorrow.

  5. Herron and Todd apparently promoted also. More news to come from the Cards minors apparently.

  6. Herron is starting for Springfield today. Looking forward to seeing him pitch. Todd was not listed on Springfield’s web site this morning as being added to the team only Herron. Also they were not sure Walters would stay at Memphis.
