• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Scouting report on Thomas Eager

An anonymous fan sent me this report on Thomas Eager.

Build: Far more slight than 6-2, 210 listing suggests. Athletic build, but not enough projectability to suggest an uptick in velocity.
Delivery: Solid, aggressive hip turn and thicker lower frame responsible for velocity. Arm speed is very, very poor and arm action isn’t good because of a slight short-arm.
Fastball: 87-90 mph. Pitched consistently at 89-90 before losing some velocity in third inning. Downward movement dangerous when low in zone, but command erratic and pitch will flatten when left up.
Slider: 78-81 mph. Little depth in pitch, but sharp, horizontal break. Possesses good command of pitch — used most often on inside half to RHH. Can freeze hitters, but not a swing-and-miss pitch presently.
Change: 83-85 mph. Little confidence in pitch; thrown just 4-5 times in outing, only to LHH. Bad command of pitch, just one strike with pitch in outing.

Pitch Present/Future
FB 45 50
SL 50 50
CH 30 40

Report: Eager promises to struggle against LHH without anything to complement his sinker. Add in a velocity loss after 40 pitches, and Eager profiles as a ROOGY, a sinker-slider reliever brought in only to face RHH. Therefore, a player like Todd Williams serves as a ceiling comp for Eager, but to reach that, he must tighten his fastball command and better vary his slider usage.

This is exactly the type of info I’m looking for. If you put together a detailed report like similar to this, please send it on over. If I like it, I’ll publish it. You can remain anonymous like this person if you like, or not. Of course, you can always just share your thoughts and impressions in the comments as well, which many of you have and continue to do. That is also appreciated, as always.

  1. What I really want to know is can this young man choke down the burgers and fries as good as amaury marti or myself. If so, he should swing by the loading dock around 1am friday night. we all hang out behind the dumpsters so you can’t miss us.

  2. This guy was a 5th round pick? My two favorites in the 5th round last year-Michael Taylor and Jeremy Hefner-are both off to pretty good starts. I wonder what was so bad about Hefner. From what I remember, his scouting report was glowing. Taylor was just a big power hitter with potential to be a solid player.

  3. like i said on draft day, if you are going to take a college pitcher that projects as a reliever why not just take the dominating closer from a college powerhouse? andrew carignan was still available in the 5th round, and he has some great stuff. he has also been lights out in his brief pro career.
