• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Farm Report - 4/9/08

Congratulations to Nick Stavinoha, he had a good day today on the field and also is the father of a new baby girl (which, thankfully, happened off the field).

It is a good thing that Albert hit two homers for the big club today, because it was a pretty forgettable day for the organization otherwise.  Memphis played a matinee, Palm Springs in the evening, Springfield had a needed day off and Quad Cities played a double header - all the details are after the jump.

Memphis 2, New Orleans 0

  • Mike Parisi had a great start, going six innings while giving up no runs on five hits and a walk and striking out three.
  • Ron Flores, Jason Motte, and Chris Perez each pitching a scoreless inning, with Motte and Perez each giving up one hit. Motte struck out one and Perez struck out a pair and got the save.
  • Colby had a miserable day, going 0-5 with three strikouts.
  • The offensive was provided by Jarrett Hoffpauir and new papa Nick Stavinoha, both of whom went 2-4 with an rbi. Hoffpauir is now batting .429.
  • Josh Phelps doubled (which was the team’s only extra base hit) and scored a run in going 1-4.
  • Note: Tony Armas, Jr. started for New Orleans and held the ‘birds down for five innings and old friend Fernando Tatis went 0-4 with a strikeout for the Zephyrs.

Palm Beach 4, Daytona 7

  • It was a rough day for Daniel Descalso; he went 0-4 with a strikeout at the plate and had three errors in the field, two throwing and one fielding.
  • Kyle Mura was the unfortunate receipient of Descalso’s fielding woes, which accounted for six unearned runs. Mura went seven innings (so much for the piggyback system), giving up seven hits and three walks and an earned run to go along with the six unearned. He didn’t strike anybody out.
  • Everyone’s favorite pitcher, Gary Daley pitched a scoreless inning.
  • Steve Hill provided most of the offense, going 3-4 with a double (as with Memphis, the club only had one extra base hit) and three rbi.
  • Tyler Henley also went 3-4 with two runs scored, a walk and a stolen base.

Quad Cities 0, Cedar Rapids 2; Quad Cities 0, Cedar Rapids 3

  • Yes, that’s right. Quad Cities was shut out on both ends of a double header again.
  • J.D. Stambaugh went four innings in the opener, giving up two runs on six hits and two strikouts.
  • Shaun Garceau gave up six hits in three innings in the second game, giving up three runs, but only one was earned. He almost escaped a jam in the first inning, but Charlie Pelt dropped a pop-up with two outs and the bases loaded, allowing two runs to score - it was that kind of day, I guess.
  • Pete Kozma went 0-3 in the first game and 1-2 with a walk and a strikeout in the second.
  • Andrew Brown went 1-3 in each of the games with a double in the first game (the only extra base hit all day for QC - notice the disturbing trend for the whole system today?).
  • Charlie Pelt went 1-3 in the first game and 0-2 with a walk and a strikeout in the second game.
  • Adron Chambers went 1-3 in the first game.

  1. Wow. That’s a bad day. Springfield’s offense can’t really be this bad, can it?

  2. springfield didn’t even play today trb :P

also, Steve Hill is a hitting machine, I heard he was half cyborg.

  3. Keep trying to tell myself that this is not a surprising start for Colby… he’ll struggle early as with the past couple years, but start picking up steam as the summer months hit.

But boy, the offense(s) are looking offensive.

  4. Perhaps it’s worth noting that Descalso, normally a second baseman, committed multiple errors while playing shortstop. Why he was at short is a mystery to me.

  5. Notable: I think this was Descalso’s first start at shortstop.

  6. I noticed Kozma DH’d the first game.

  7. that descalso at short experiment went really well.

  8. No, Kozma DH’d the 2nd game. I was there. I’ll have a little report on what my thoughts were…I liked Kozma.

I’ll also have a scouting report on Garceau either this afternoon or Friday.

  9. Shoot. Quad Cities offense. You work for years to build up a reputation, and then bang! It’s all gone in an instant, the victim of poor reading skills and hasty posting.

Internet discussion group, she be a harsh mistress, says I.

  10. The piggyback is still being employed. David Kopp came in in the 5th and pitched 3 innings in between Mura and Daley. Not sure of his line.Don’t know why Kopp was never entered in the box. But I was listening to the game on the computer.

  11. Thanks RH. How’s Tyler liking Palm Beach?

  12. kopp is in the box now. they did the same thing the last time these two pitched first saying kopp went 7 then later changing it.

anyway, kopp’s line was 3 innings, 2 hits, 3 runs, 0 earned, 1 walk, 0 strikeouts. not a great game for him as he didn’t record a strikeout and had more flyouts than groundouts, but he obviously wasn’t getting any help from his shortstop.

  13. I was also at the QC game in Cedar Rapids last night. There is nothing like sitting around in 40 degree weather for 4.5 straight hours. I wrote some thoughts over on the 4/9 minor league thread at thestlcardinals.com last night.

I’d like to hear what Erik thought about Garceau. RH, what have you heard about Garceau’s pitching style? My thoughts…he threw hard, but doesn’t have a lot of sink. He was throwing up in the zone a lot in the first 2 innings and got in some trouble. He’s got a hell of a breaking pitch. i’m still trying to figure out if that was a hard 11-5 knuckle curve or a slurve. Once he established his breaking pitch, he was more effective. In the 3rd inning he was pitching low in the zone and using his breaking pitch, and he was unhittable.

Kozma stood out in the field. He looked great. I’ve got some more ramblings on the other site that I wrote last night.

  14. where’d you sit, waltdub?

  15. In the second row right behind home plate…next to the tunnel.

  16. Gary Daley pitched two scoreless…but he also hit two with a pitch…not trying to correct you erik…but not a small detail considering his last outing.

Seriously love the site guys - a daily stop for me.

  17. Oh and excuse mean - I meant “not trying to correct you Roarke.” I can’t keep up with all of the new writers here and at VEB.

    Cheers.
