• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Memphis and Palm Beach Opening Day rosters revealed

John Vuch was kind enough to send me the full opening day rosters for each team. We already know the Quad Cities and Springfield rosters. The only change is that Matt Scherer has hit the DL and Casey Rowlett has moved up to make room for Dan Nelson. I should make this disclaimer that I’m just filling out some of the blanks on where I think they will fit in the lineup.

Here you go, after the jump-

Memphis

Rotation:

SP-Mitch Boggs
SP-Blake Hawksworth
SP-MikeParisi
SP-Joe Rogers
SP-Jon Wasdin

Bullpen:

Perez
Motte
Worrell
Kelvin Jimenez
Castellanos
Flores the younger
Pollitte
Sillman (DL)

C-Mark Johnson
1B-Josh Phelps
2B-Jarrett Hoffpauir
3B-David Freese
SS-Brian Barden
OF-Amaury Marti
OF-Colby Rasmus
OF-Joe Mather

Bench- C Gabe Johnson, C Matt Pagnozzi (DL), OF Nick Stavinoha, IF D’Angelo Jimenez, UTIL Casey Rowlett.

That’s a happening lineup that looks to be undone by some mediocre pitching. I still have faith in the Hawk, and Parisi may fare better his second go at the PCL. I’m a Boggs believer, but I could see him going through an adjustment period at AAA. Don’t get me wrong, I think the 3 guys at the top are prospects, but I can also see all three have some difficulties. It’s a pivotal year for each of them. And Rogers and Wasdin certainly are less then inspiring.

Palm Beach

They are going with the piggyback at Palm Beach, y’all may not like this very much.

P-Tyler Herron
P-Jesse Todd
P-Brad Furnish
P-Mark McCormick
P-David Kopp
P-Brandon Dickson
P-Kyle Mura
P-Kyle Sadlowski

Bullpen:
Kenny Maiques
Josh Dew
Gary Daley
Marco Gonzalez

On the DL-Kris Honel, Elvis Hernandez, Tyler Norrick.
Trey Hearne is in Mexico. Scott Vander Weg is suspended.

I understand the piggyback idea; it keeps the pitch-o-meter down on their arms and gives them an opportunity to give more pitchers more looks. But Kyle Mura? Kyle Sadlowski? Seems like an odd choice to me. They both had good seasons for the QC last year, but in middle relief.  I would assume they are just keeping a seat warm for Norrick, Hernandez or Degerman. Norrick probably should be in AA once he’s well and Degerman I’m assuming is back to extended spring training to iron out his control issues. Again.

C-Nick Derba
1B-Brandon Buckman
2B-Daniel Descalso
3B-Isa Garcia
SS-Oliver Marmol
OF-Tyler Henley
OF-Tommy Pham
OF-Daryl Jones

Cruz and Hill are listed as catchers, and I think the will play everyday. Cruz most likely at 3B, Hill when he’s not catching at 1B, LF, and DH.

Also on the bench is C Casey Mulligan, IF Donovan Solano, OF Nathan Southard. OF Jim Rapoport is on the DL.

I’ve already discussed the lineup intrigue on the Palm Beach preview. That’s quite a an aggressive “challenge promotion” for Jones and Pham, but I like it and both are coming off great springs. This is an interesting lineup of sleepers with Derba, Cruz, Hill, Henley and Descalso. All of those players are capable of putting themselves in the prospect discussion, if some of them haven’t already.

  1. how about SS for palm beach????

  2. updated. thanks for pointing it out. hey, while we’re on the subject, when we make an error we love it when you point it out. but didn’t your mothers ever teach you the value of please and thank you? Now look what you did, you made me use an emiticon.

  3. Yea that Memphis rotation doesn’t get me too excited. However, a month or two into the season the rotation could be totally different assuming Pineiro, Clement and Mulder get healthy enough to put themselves in the big league rotation.

  4. It may not be long before we see Jaime Gacia in that Memphis rotation.
I don’t know if I’d call Jones’ promotion agressive. He spent all of last season in Quad Cities. I’d call it a change of scenary. Maybe playing in the bigger parks of the FSL will help him place some hits between the outfielders. It might also boost his confidence moving up a level.
You’re right about Pham, though. Especially after going 2 for 32 at Quad Cities and then hitting .205 in the NYPL. He must have looked really good in the spring.

  5. pham and jones had great springs. i have no inside info here, but to speculate i think the coaching of jeff albert and others may have something to do with their new found success.

  6. Where is Mark Shorey? He showed the ability to hit AA pitching last summer, and now he’s not on the A+ roster. Does anyone know if he’s injured? Surely he wasn’t cut.

  7. I hope Solano gets plenty of AB’s at Palm Beach, say 18-20 per week at least. He’s only 20 years old, and has been badly rushed to this point. I believe he hit OK in Spring Training, as well as Winter Ball–though I have no hard data to back up that impression.

That Memphis rotation is a collective 5.00 ERA waiting to happen. The AAA bats & bullpen could be stellar, however.

  8. Shorey is on the AA Dl.

  9. Well Rasmus just hit a double that missed being a homer by a foot or so according to gameday. He scored a run also. Jay Bruce 1-4 2 K’s against a 26 year old lefty.

  10. Where is Stu Pomeranz?

  11. Man, that outfield at Memphis is going to slug the crap out of the ball.

….as long as they’re together that is.
