I had the opportunity to ask Will Carroll what he thought of the plan to stretch Springfield’s pitchers out to 120 pitches. He said that he thought it was an interesting concept and that he would be interested in seeing how it plays out. It was just a brief email exchange, but somehow I am [...]

The organization has had its share of AAA filler in recent years (a trend that seems to be slowly reversing itself). While these guys were never really considered big time prospects, it is easy to get attached to them because they come off as underdogs. So, while guys like John Gall never really “made it” [...]

Dyar Miller is talking about stretching (or abusing, whichever term you prefer) his pitchers up to 120 pitches per start. Bad idea jeans. I honestly haven’t looked into Pitcher Abuse Points and their merits that thoroughly, but from what I understand the general rule of thumb is to not let pitcher that’s 20-22 years old [...]

The Memphis Commercial Appeal catches up with Motte for this edition of:
”They were like, ‘we’re going to turn you into a pitcher now,”’ Motte said. ”Not that I didn’t expect this, but I’ve never pitched in my life. I didn’t really know how it was going to work, or how I was going to do.”
I’ve [...]

It was a rough weekend for the top college prospects as nearly all of the pitchers struggled, and most of the top bats struggled as well. I put most of the pitching lines up, but the hitting side is a little limited in this week’s report. There still were some impressive performances like [...]

A couple of injury updates to lead the DFR tonight:
David Freese is listed as day-to-day with a knee contusion after making contact on a slide.
Josh Kinney went to see Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion after feeling pain in his elbow from breaking pitches. Andrews and Dr. Lewis Yocum are two names you never [...]

Here’s an article about Tony Cruz and catching. I broke my finger (pinkie finger - my favorite finger) today so I’m struggling to type a bit. (Hence the short intro.)
Let’s get straight to the DFR. The system goes 3-for-5 tonight and the winners aren’t who you’d guess.

Kary Booher has an interesting article on the deciding factors that led to the club drafting Chris Lambert back in 2004, and what measures they’ve taken to make sure they don’t repeat the same kind of mistake.
The Cardinals traditionally draft college pitchers No. 1 overall. Hughes was a high school pick, and high schoolers are [...]

I complained about the Kozma-at-18 pick the other night in a DFR, but Pete has been so good thus far this season that he deserves a look. (As an aside, I’m sure once this year’s draft comes, I’ll stop complaining about Kozma-at-18 since I’ll have other fodder.) I haven’t opened up his numbers yet [...]

The organization pulled a little switcharoo at Quad Cities, calling up three players from extended Spring Training, sending two players out to extended Spring Training and letting a player go. The affected players are as follows:
In: Quick D’Marcus Ingram (OF), Osvaldo Morales (1B), and Mark Diapoules (RHP)
Out: Beau Riportella (OF), Andres Rosales (RHP)
Gone: Charlie Pelt [...]

You’ll remember way back last season when our starting rotation in the bigs was absolutely terrible, I went looking for some minor league talent that could help, basically for free. My favorite of those three options was Jack Cassel who signed a minor league contract with Houston this past season after being released by the [...]
