Daily Prospect Report - 3/27/08
Kyle McClellan pitched well for the big club on Thursday, even though he hasn’t gotten the handshake from Tony LaRussa that makes him officially on the roster for the start of the season. He pitched 2 innings in relief of Kyle Lohse (who also pitched well), giving up one hit and no runs, while striking out 2.
In other prospect news, it looks like Uncle Rico might be making the trip North with the big club, taking Brendan Ryan’s spot. Ryan is still struggling with a sore ribcage muscle and will stay in Jupiter to for a few extra days. Goold has all the details.
There were two games and an inter-squad game for the minor leaguers today. Details after the jump.
Memphis 10, Las Vegas 5
- It was a mixed squad for Memphis, as several of the younger players “played up”.
- Mitchell Boggs threw 5 innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. Boggs gave up a 3 run homer in the first inning one batter after a bad hop on a grounder ruined what would have been an inning-ending double play. He also struck out 3.
- Cliff Politte gave up 2 runs, 1 earned, on 3 hits and a walk. He also struck out 1 in his 2 innings of work.
- Mark Worrell and Jason Motte each pitched a scoreless inning and each gave up 1 hit.
- James Rapoport went 2-4 with a double.
- Pete Kozma tripled and scored a run, going 1-2.
- Gabe “no the other” Johnson went 2-4 with a homer.
- Joe Mather went deuces wild with 2 hits, 2 runs, 2 rbi, and a double.
- Josh Phelps, the man with no discernable role in the organization, hit a double and homerun, going 3-5.
Palm Beach 6, Jacksonville (AA for Dodgers) 12
- Gary Daley got shelled, giving up 9 runs in his 2+ innings.
- Brad Furnish was better than Daley, but that’s not saying much. He gave up 2 runs, 1 earned on 2 hits over 3 innings.
- Jess Todd went 3 scoreless innings, giving up 2 hits.
- Josh Dew gave up a run on two hits and struck out a pair in his inning of work.
- Tyler Henley provided the pop with a 3-run homer.
- Tommy Pham continues his assault with a double and a walk.
- Steve Hill had a 3-5 day, while Brandon Buckman, Nick Derba, Donovan Solano, and Arnoldi Cruz all went 2-5.
- Mr. Tools, Daryl Jones went 1-4 with a walk and an rbi.
Quad Cities #2 10, Quad Cities #1 1
- It was a bloodbath and Andres Rosales suffered the most, allowing 8 runs over 2.1 innings.
- Eddie Degerman did not escape the punishment, giving up 2 hits and 2 runs over 1.2 innings.
- JD Stambaugh was the lone pitching bright spot for QC1, giving up only 2 hits against 2 strikeouts in his 3 scoreless innings.
- On the other side, Deryk Hooker had a nice game for QC2, going 3 scoreless with 4 strikeouts and allowing 3 hits.
- Mark Diapoules gave up 2 hits, 2 walks, and a run in his 2.1 innings, while striking out a pair.
- Eduardo Sanchez and Matt Spade each pitched flawless innings with 2 k’s.
- QC1’s five hits were spread out between Luis DeLaCruz (who was 2-2), Justin Robertson, Charles Pelt and Jose Garcia.
- Erik just answered a question about Ross Oeder yesterday and, speak of the devil, he comes through, going 4-4 with 2 doubles.
- Matthew Aburr continues to be on fire, adding to yesterday’s onslaught with a 3-4 performance with a double, homerun and 4 rbi. That makes 3 homers and 9 rbi over the last two days. Aburr was a 17th round pick of the Cardinals last year out of Pace U. - he only hit .204 in his debut at Johnson City, but he’s a big guy (6′4″ 260) with power potential at 3B.
- Ryde Rodriguez continues to impress with a 2-3 day with a homerun.
- Paul Vasquez also homered in going 1-2.

It’s ROSS Oeder…..not Russ
Ross, Russ, is it really worth the comment to point it out? We are human!
My apologies to Mr. Oeder, his fans, his friends and his family. I will edit my post just as soon as I am at a computer that will allow me to do so.
way to go pete! a triple in the AAA game, maybe the kid isn’t as bad as everyone thinks.
Hey, I just realized fewgoodcards never created a prospect list.
Is it too late to do so now for this season? I’d like to see his thoughts.
As much as we talk about the Cards and their draft….Gary Daley is the #1 problem with their philosphy
Taking raw college arms……just makes no sense.
If you want to take a power arm with upside, that needs to be refined, polished and in some instances.
Why do you take a 21 or 22 yr old?
Hello…fork over a couple extra bucks and take the 18 yr old.
Gary Daley was a pick we cringed at..but where told to give it time…we gave it time and believe it or not…it got worse.
