• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Prospect Report 3/19/08

I don’t have a quippy intro tonight — super busy day and tomorrow is starting early for me. Here’s your Spring Training DPR for the minor league games. Enjoy!

Memphis 7, Albuquerque 1

  • Dewon Brazelton was the winner, pitching 2 innings, no hits or runs, 1 BB, 5 K’s [Azru note: Brazelton is just beginning to throw to live hitters due to injuries. He should still have a guaranteed spot in the Memphis rotation though.
  • Joe Rogers pitched 4 hitless innings, allowing 1 walk and 2 K's
  • Ron Flores allowed one run in his inning of work.
  • Jason Motte pitched the final inning, allowing 1 hit, no runs or walks and 2 K's.
  • Joe Mather hit a 3-run HR to start the scoring, Gabe Johnson hit a 2-run HR and Chris Duncan hit a solo shot.
  • Mark Johnson was 2-for-3 with a double.
  • Chris Duncan led off each inning and was 3-for-9 with a double and HR

Springfield 4, Carolina 8

  • Adam Ottavino pitched 3.2 IP, allowing 5 hits, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K's.
  • Stu Pomeranz took the loss, allowing 6 runs in his inning of work, along with 4 hits and 3 BB's.
  • Bob Zimmerman struck out three in 2.1 innings of 1-hit shutout ball.
  • Josh Dew pitched a perfect inning with 2 K's.
  • Allen Craig was most of the offense with a 4-for-5 day with a double, HR and 2 RBIs.
  • Nobody else had a multi-hit game, but AJ Van Slyke homered. [Azru note - Van Slyke has had a torrid spring. He didn't really register on anyone's radar last year but he could be primed to make some noise.]

Palm Beach 3, Jupiter 5

  • Tyler Herron worked four scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 BB and 3 K’s
  • Blake King allowed 4 hits, 2 BB and 3 runs in his two innings, while striking out two
  • Justin Fiske allowed 2 ER and four hits in 1.1 IP
  • James Rapoport was 2-for-5 with a double
  • Brandon Buckman was 2-for-3
  • Oliver Marmol singled and scored in his only AB

Quad Cities 5, Greensboro 4

  • Nick Additon pitched 3+ innings, allowing three hits and two runs
  • Brett Zawacki was the winner, allowing 2 runs and 4 hits in 3 IP
  • Matt Spade nailed down the save with a perfect 9th
  • Justin Roberson singled, walked and was HBP in 5 PA’s
  • Adron Chambers was 3-for-4 with two runs scored
  • Peter Kozma was 1-for-3 with a walk and HBP
  • Joey Hage was 2-for-4 and had the GWRBI on a sacfly in the 9th
  • Brian Cartie singled and walked twice
  • Carlos Pupo hit a 2-run HR

  1. GO PUPO!!!!

  2. everyone does

  3. Go Mather! I think he should be headed north with the Cards, but I’m sure we’ll see him in STL in no time!

  4. I really wanna see consistent performaces from Ottavino this year. It seemed like last year he would string together a couple brilliant 6 or 7 inning starts, then implode for 5 runs in 3 innings his next start. I ‘m really pulling for AO. Hope he gets it done this year, really don’t wanna see him turned into a reliever due to control and consistency issues

  5. Ha! I just saw that book “Everybody Pups”. Great read. Except they spelled “Pup” incorrectly.

  6. “everyone does”

    nice, erik. ha!

  7. Forgive my ignorance but does “cut from minor league camp” = released from organization?

If so, bye bye Mike Ferris.

I’d also be somewhat surprised at Haberer’s release since they haven’t tried him in the pen recently and they having little in terms of left-handed relief.

Dove doesn’t surprise me. They have better relievers in AAA than him. His main calling card was velocity and they may think that his shoulder just isn’t going to hold up.

  8. Here is how Leach worded it on his Blog:

“* A number of Minor Leaguers were released today, including former high draft picks Mike Ferris and Eric Haberer, and last year’s camp sensation, Dennis Dove.”
