FR Community Projections: Allen Craig
I’d predict that Craig’s at bats will largely come at Springfield but it wasn’t popular when I told you to make assumptions so you can guess whether he’ll get playing time in Memphis as well. All I want is what his composite numbers (from all levels) will look like. Here’s his player page at First Inning and Baseball-Reference. PLEASE COMMA DELIMIT w/o SPACES.

So that is a .281/.346/.491 line from me, assuming he gets hit by 7 pitches. I’d be rather happy with that line.

I realized the other day that i know most of the names of our minor leaguers but i have no clue as to what any of them look like. I started searching for pictures of them and was really surprised by what i found. they dont look at all like what i had pictured. Could you guys stick some pictures of some of the guys in the projections or the prospect stews or throughout the season. Mortenson has one long neck.

I hate to be the party pooper, but AA is a struggle for most their first time thru, even with his short stint to end 2007.
His lack of patience at the plate will likely be exposed at AA for awhile..I think he adjusts and produces.
I hope I am wrong…
dougie- i know you are a smart guy… you can’t possibly be serious. No one even hit 40 homers in the minors last year. Outlandish projections like this kinda defeat the purpose of this exercise, IMO, but AZ is free to use them if he wants i guess.

erik - I’m not that smart - but my projection is serious - I played in Florida State League and if he can do what he did in that league at Roger Dean Stadium then I really believe he can hit 40 homeruns at Hammons Field where the ball just jumps out in the summer (been there seen that). He may start off slow (in April - due to the cold) but in May, June and July I think he will go off- In the FSL no one shows up to the games - the atmosphere in the Texas league is completely different (people are at the games and it actually has an atmosphere) - I believe this helps players as they wear down during the season - Finally, I think Colby hit 5 hrs in 192 abs in the FSL and hit 29 last year - I think he would have hit 35 (or more) if he hadn’t been sick for several weeks.
Just my opinion
By the way I’m in no way related or friends with Mr. Craig -
i still disagree, but i appreciate your explanation and it’s nice to see there’s some reasoning behind the madness.

I always have just an average outlook on these projections, never expect a big rise or fall.

So, Dougie’s right that the Texas League is much more HR-friendly than Florida. He’s going from one extreme to another, and he already hit for a lot of power in the tougher context. For that reason I actually think it’s reasonable to predict Craig will be on pace for over 30 HR at some point. The thing is, if he does hit that well he’ll probably get promoted to Memphis by July and I’m not sure he can keep up the pace while adjusting to new and more advanced pitchers there. So I’ll predict 28 HR with the assumption that it breaks down to something like 20 HR in 3 months at Springfield and 8 HR in 2 months at Memphis

I’m hoping Craig will seperate himself as THE 3rd base prospect this year
Goold has a post up with today’s minor league lineups and suggests it hints at roster assignments.
Meant to add…if they are any indication, it looks like Craig will be in Springfield. I hope there’s nothing to read into him riding pine today. I seriously doubt there is.
Erik,
Sorry if this was already posted - but a head’s up if not.
John Sickels has an “unsung prospect- sleeper alert on Allen Craig” at minorleagueball.com
Nevermind…just read your post on the site.
Sorry - keep up the great work guys…this has grown to one of my favorite sites.
