I have seen no reaction to Prince Filder’s (and someone else I don’t remember) dissatisfaction for his contract, and this speaking about Colby’s pre-arby years brings this to my mind: are we coming to an end of this “protected” era, due to the greed of some players? Is the Player’s Association gonna come to ask for a change of the “low salary” years? I have the feeling that the Tulowitzki contract is gonna do some damage…

Just to clear up the Matthew Leach fandom question: he wrote in this post:

“As I believe I’ve mentioned in this space, I grew up as a Red Sox fan. For a wide variety of reasons, I’m no longer a fan of them or of any one team.”

Although he’s got a (good-looking) book coming out on the history of Cardinals baseball.

Here is the scouting report on McClellan yesterday from my source at Spring Training: “He wasn’t fooling anybody in the first inning and got hit hard. He settled in after that, though, and looked good.”

I know that isn’t much different from what Erik said, but I have to give a mention to my source (i.e. Dad). I will be down there myself for first hand accounts starting on the 12th.

Matthew Leach works for MLB not the Cardinals, and I’m pretty sure he has said that he isn’t even a Cardinals fan.

Yeah, but you hit on Kozma last year (albeit in round 1a, not 1, if I recall correctly). Hard to go 2 for 2 on crazy, out-of-the-box picks.

i would like to think i know my draft prospects, but i have to say if we were doing this last year i doubt i would have covered clayton mortensen much. there will always be surprises on draft day, but we will try to cover as many guys as we can throughout the next 3 months.
