• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

College Monday wrap-up 3/31

Buster Posey is breaking out while Aaron Crow and Brian Matusz continue to show why they are the top 2 pitchers in college baseball.  Gordon Beckham almost missed the wrap-up for the first time, but a big day Sunday kept his streak alive.  Check out some of the other top performers after the break.

Daily Farm Report 3/30/08

Kinda quiet on the news front with Opening Day right around the corner. This will be the last of the Cardinal’s spring training farm reports (for which we thank John Vuch) until the season picks up in the very near future. Don’t read into who was on what team in tonight’s report — it’s [...]

DFR 3/29/08

Joe Strauss looks at the shift in the Cardinals philosophies. He hits a sore spot or two.
The club made minimal use of cross-checkers before that draft, relying instead on area scouts and numbers. Luhnow, averse to devoting a premium pick on righthanded high school pitching, backed DeWitt’s objection to a first-round selection of Philip Hughes, [...]

Living with low velocity

Fangraphs is always adding to it’s stat-y goodness, now including pitch type leaderboards. Just out of curiosity, I wanted so see what big league right-handed starters in the MLB have P.J. Walters like velocity.
Average fastball velocity:
Livan Hernandez 83.6
Greg Maddux 84.7
Paul Byrd 85.6
Matt Morris 87.4
Josh Fogg 87.7
Greg Maddux is on another dimension, so just forget you [...]

Daily Farm Report 3/28/08

I have to say I feel like a bit of a loser posting on a Friday night, but my wife rented and is watching the movie Atonement, and I’m more of a “Gene Pick” guy myself. Yes, it was nominated for an Academy Award. I was rooting for Juno (me being the snowflake that I [...]

Daily Prospect Report - 3/27/08

Kyle McClellan pitched well for the big club on Thursday, even though he hasn’t gotten the handshake from Tony LaRussa that makes him officially on the roster for the start of the season. He pitched 2 innings in relief of Kyle Lohse (who also pitched well), giving up one hit and no runs, while striking out [...]

Daily Prospect Report - 3/26/08

Yesterday’s big news in the world of Cardinals propects was that Brian Barton and Kyle McClellan almost officially made the team. I say almost because, according to Goold, LaRussa said that unexpected things can happen and so he wouldn’t shake their hand to congratulate them on making the team until Monday. I have to admit [...]

A Tale of Two Reyes

There’s been some recent furor over the demotion of Anthony Reyes. Iron Cap has gone from being the club’s top prospect to top problem child, and when you hear some of the current comments by Dave Duncan about his young righty, he gives the impression that he has little to no confidence in young Reyes. [...]

Daily Prospect Report 3/26/08

Per Monsieur Goold, the following players have been released-SP Dewon Brazelton, OF Reid Gorecki, Utility IF Juan Lucena, RHP Logan Collier, RHP Armando Carrasco.
For the first time in it seems like ages, the Memphis Redbirds will have a fully homegrown rotation. Huzzah. No journeyman AAAA roster fillers hoarding up spots! This is a sharp turn [...]

Future Redbirds Top 15 Draft Prospects

As you have probably seen we have started a new feature called College Monday wrap-up. While we have done some profiles, there aren’t many posted yet, and some of you may be wondering which of these names you see on the wrap-up may actually be possibilities for the Cardinals’ first pick in June. [...]
