Great baseball discussion today about pitching workloads.
Prospects in today’s game:
- Brendan Ryan went 2-for-3 with a triple.
- David Freese went 2-for-3 with a triple as well. Given that Freese is the only true third basemen in camp, I wonder if the Cardinals would consider carrying him as Spiezio’s replacement.
- Colby Rasmus and Joe Mather both went 0-for-1 while Brian Barton was 0-for-3 with a throwing error.
- Jarrett Hoffpauir replaced Aaron Miles (who recorded his first of many errors) and hit a sac fly to score Marti.
- Mike Parisi threw 2 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 ER and 1 strikeout.
- Jaime Garcia had a good line and FGC liked what he saw. 2 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 2Ks — and his elbow is still attached.
I enjoy things other than baseball. That may come as a surprise.
Because it’s February and because I want to, I’m dropping links to my favorite non-baseball sites below. Enter at your own risk.
Kissing Suzy Kolber - You have to be prepared for a fiercely acerbic wit and some 8-year-old toilet humor but if you can stand the heat, KSK is one of the funniest sites to read. A spinoff of Deadspin, the crew has alternately put out hits on Tom Brady, watched a hyena swim inside a giraffe - literally and it’s quite gross, written fictional cheerleader biographies and generally made people in Boston feel a little worse about themselves. All good things, right? Supposedly the site is about football but I think that’s an urban legend. [Update: Today's commenter draft was a classic -- and clean.]
Fantasy Hotlist - If you’re a geek like me (and that takes effort) you may enjoy this review site of sci-fi/fantasy novels. I read 1-2 books a week so I’m typically looking for something new. Since I do enough heavy reading at school, I’ve always enjoyed the escapism and whimsical nature of the genre. This site helps me pick up new authors during my dry spells.
Male Pattern Fitness - As someone who has only within the last two years started taking their health/weight/exercise-regimen seriously, I’ve come to appreciate this SBN blog on fitness. Lou Schuler pens the blog (he also penned two weight lifting books: one for men & one for women) and occasionally pops by here with a comment. A recent favorite: Lou meets angry woman while attempting to work out. Sometimes he goes jargony on me (what’s a spinal-flexion exercise?) but I usually nod to myself knowingly — and then google it.
Stuff White People Like - The behind the scenes portion of WordPress (the blogging support this site runs on) has some interesting different lists that we can see when we go to write posts and what not. This blog shot up into the top 4 in the last week or so. I finally clicked on it and the short simple posts are both stereotypical and clever. I find them delightful in their brevity rather than having to muck through 20 paragraphs for a punchline. Tragically, this one was written about me. Robots from the future like coffee too.
I’m always looking for more ways to procrastinate new and interesting sites so be sure to drop your favorite non-baseball sites in the comments.

Stuff white people like nailed me on this one
not so much on the top 10, but definitely on liking A Tribe Called Quest and Brand Nubian. I thought I was being different liking conscious 90’s hip hop, turns out I was being a dorky white dude.
Damn you. I’ve got click cumpulsion man. Hell, warning me away from it just makes me more likely to click. Argh. Gasp! Must. Get. Image. Out. Of. Brain. D.GOOCH (these are the days I wish the zappy thing from MIB was real…)
Biz Markie is the man….not sure there is anything better than “Just a Friend”
#4: Assists, lol! I dare you to show me a white person who doesn’t LOVE assists.
To get back to baseball for a moment, I note for the record that the Barton error was not a bad throw but a dropped line drive. I’m sorry to say he didn’t look particularly in the field or at bat yesterday.
