I think the Cards are just kind of clueless about what their players are doing off the field. But I suspect most teams are. These guys are adults, and the Cards have a long history of treating them like adults.

Still, it makes me wonder how TLR’s relationship with a solid citizen like Rolen could deteriorate the way it did, while he maintained apparently rock-solid relationships with seriously troubled guys like Hancock and Spiezio.

I’m reminded of Whitey Herzog’s conflicts with all the substance abusers her inherited. Whitey confronted it head-on (for better and for worse), while TLR seems oblivious to what his players are up to off the field.

Nice to see our guys do so well.

Even though it is more of a Major League issue I am wondering how the Spezio stuff affects the Minors. Makes me wonder if Miles was signed because they expected this to happen and that Ryan will be taking Spezio’s spot, or if I am just making too much out of the fact that TLR knew something about an incident in December before the warrant came out. Will this open a spot for Ryan even? Or will they now carry Juan Gone, Barton AND Skip? That would be a crowded OF but an empty IF unless one of them could play 1st and 3rd. Does Phelps get the job maybe? Lots of questions that may directly effect the minor leaguers.
