• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

It’s That Time of Year - Top 100 Prospect Lists

In case you missed it, Kevin Goldstein and Keith Law both unveiled their Top 100 prospect lists.

Prospect Profile: Chris Perez

There’s not much to say about Chris Perez that we really don’t already know, but hey…it’s winter and pitchers and catchers are still a few weeks away from reporting, so what the hey…

College sinkerballers

Bryan Smith looks at college arms in his latest edition of Wait ‘Til Next Year . He looks at everything from southpaws to fire-ballers, but what I wanted to highlight was the sinker-ballers. Last year, the first three pitchers they took in the draft had 2:1 ground-out to fly-out ratios or better. (Mortensen, Kopp, Todd). [...]

I’ve been hearing more and more experts who are sharing a high regard for Jess Todd, so let’s take a closer look at him.

Baseball America’s Top 30 Cardinals

This year’s edition of the Prospect Handbook are starting to be delivered if you pre-ordered through their website. Unfortunately, I did not so I won’t be getting mine for another week or so. It’s like having to wait until the weekend to celebrate your birthday. Grumble, grumble.
The Red Baron was kind enough to share the [...]

Thank God for John Mozeliak

He’s a smarter guy then Bill Bavasi. I want to echo something lboros pointed out a few weeks ago-
dave cameron of USS Mariner breaks down the proposed adam jones for erik bedard trade and concludes: bad move for the mariners. jones is seattle’s version of colby rasmus, so mentally substitute his name into the article [...]

Prospect Stew

Rounding up Redbird notes from around the net.
Keith Law had a chat recently at ESPN and a few Cardinal comments made it in:
Ryan (STL): What are the upsides of Cards minor leaguers Mitch Boggs, Mike Parisi, Ottavino, and Clay Mortenson? Do they stand a decent chance of helping in a few years, or will they [...]

2008 NRI’s

Per Matthew Leach, here are the Cardinal non-roster invitees–

Prospect profile: David Kopp

I know he’s only pitched a grand total of four minor league innings, but I’ve had a growing fascination with 2nd round pick David Kopp as of late.

Prospect Profile: Bryan Anderson

It’s both interesting and difficult to evaluate a 20-year old in AA. Colby Rasmus makes it all seem so simple by living up to projections and mashing baseballs. Bryan Anderson represents a more complex case that sits in that middle zone of not yet having come to fruition but still showing some measurable [...]

Caravanning

The Cardinals Caravan has been making it’s way across the midwest, and some of the local papers have picked up on a few tidbits here and there.

Redbird recollections: Yadier Molina

It’s nice to see a homegrown kid make good. After hearing the dollar amount of the deal to lock up Yadi during his arbitration years, it’s almost impossible not to like. And it’s equally impossible to not like Yadi. He’s a fun player to watch. His improbable heroics in Game 7 of the NLCS is [...]
