Chris Narveson pitched a gem the other night for Hermasillo of the Mexican Winter League. He struck out six batters while allowing just three hits over 7 innings pitched. He also coaxed 12 groundball outs to 3 fly outs. Through 18 innings pitched, Narveson has 17 K’s to just 2 walks, and has allowed just 1 earned run while holding batters to a .183 batting average.
He’s a currently a minor league free agent. Apparently he’s feeling healthy after suffering from multiple injuries last season, including his oblique. He’s one of those players I really had hoped to see pan out in a Cardinal uniform. I suppose they could bring him back, but I don’t see it happening with them adding Brazelton last week.

I don’t see why the Cards should have any particular commitment to Brazelton. They are giving him a shot in the Spring. They don’t owe him more than that. I said in the thread about minor league rotations for this upcoming year that the last spot in Memphis should go to a LH. Naverson could also serve as a backup for Flores or Johnson if one gets hurt. With the current roster, there is no one near ready from the left side to back them up. If I was a LH FA, STL is where ‘d go.
i don’t think they are committed to the braz, or any minor league free agent they sign. but i do think they are probably not ready to commit to narveson much of anything given his injury history. not the oblique or the knee stuff, the shoulder is what i’m sure will steer them away. but i’d still like to see him back, i’ve always had a soft spot for narvie.
I just heard today, 12/6/2007, that he is going up to the majors with the Brewers and will be at Spring training with them.
