Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.
Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.
I like the kid, I really do. I know many pro athletes have riders in their contracts about not riding motorcycles; I wonder if the Cards should include a rider for Bryan’s about avoiding scooters? Although, when he kills himself from the humiliation of being banned from driving a vehicle that maxes out at 35 mph, you could argue that he couldn’t have possibly done any worse just wrecking the damn thing.
Bryan is the typical 20 something college student right now, sure he is playing pro ball but he is living the college life or roomates, crazy stunts and just plain having fun. Dec 16th will be a fun day for him, do you think some of his teammates will be around to buy him a round?
I hope Rasmus doesn’t play on in St. Louis until September for two reasons:
1) There’s a lot of questionable talent on the STL roster in the OF - Ankiel, Duncan, Schumaker, Ludwick - the Cardinals need to take advantage of the fact that they aren’t contenders next year and figure out which of those players are the best bet moving forward. Trade the remnants or simply discard them but identifying the talent there is going to require playing time.
2) It’s crappy for Rasmus but I don’t want to start his service clock. This kid is gonna be damn good and I want him to be in STL (and cheap) for as long as possible. Unless the Cardinals are contending in August and Rasmus is a clear upgrade over someone else I hope he stays in Memphis.
I don’t think there’s any question that Rasmus will get his shot. Even if he isn’t as good as I anticpate offensively, his defense should make him a regular CF through his arbitration years. The Cardinals need to sort through their collection of marginal outfielder (can we add Stavinoha and Mather to this list?) and figure out who stays and who goes.
Any time after mid-may shouldn’t affect Rasmus’service clock. Normally super 2’s have about 2 yrs and 130 days of service for the cutoff. After mid-may, he won’t acrue enough time for a super 2 and he won’t get a year toward arbitration. The only way Sept would be advantagous is if he spent more than 30 days in the minors the following year.
I agree with Az with the exception of one possibility. I feel that Rasmus should stay in Memphis unless Edmonds gets hurt and is going to miss significant time (3+weeks). I don’t see the need to have him play on the big league squad while Jimmy is on the active roster. The MLB team gave Jimmy the 2 year contract for the purpose of giving Rasmus that extra year, might as well follow through with that plan and keep the extra year of control.

can rasmus break onto the 25man if he keeps this up like pujols did several years ago. would he get every day playing time?
I beleive he could JB. If he keeps hitting like this (more HR would be nice though) then I think he could easily break the 25 man roster.
