He's not good defensively, but he wasn't bad in the field until they tried him at third base. The only good fielder on the team this year was Skip Schumaker. Hoffpauir isn't bad, but he's not noteworthy defensively. Mather has a howitzer but isn't very good at catching it in the first place. You're right though, this was a truly wretched team.
