• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Prospect Report 10/25/07

Mesa 6, Team China 0

  • A surprise to me as Amaury Marti shows up in today’s box score. He went 0-for-4 but I have no idea why he’s there at all. Didn’t come across an explanation in a brief perusal of the interweb.
  • Mark Hamilton went 1-for-2 with a double and a pair of walks.
  • Stu Pomeranz throws 2 scoreless frames allowing a hit and a walk.
  • Jason Motte closes out the game with a perfect frame striking out 1.

Team USA 6, Peoria Javelinas 8

  • Colby Rasmus went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.
  • Bryan Anderson went 0-for-3 while grounding into a double play.
  • Chris Perez had a wild outing. He retired 2 batters allowing a run on three walks. If his command ever takes a step forward, he’s going to be a very very good reliever.

[edit] Erik chiming in. BA released it’s 07 Draft Report Card Overview, looking at who had the best debuts.

  • Steve Hill was on the “All College Draft All Star” team after hitting an .868 OPS in his pro debut between two levels.
  • Deryk Hooker was the #2 SP for the High School Draft All Star team.
  • Arnoldi Cruz was ranked the #3rd best JUCO player taken in the draft.
  • Nick Derba was rated the 5th best defensive player out of the draft.

Just thought all that was rather nifty.

  1. It’s because Mather is hurt - they sent Marti in his place.

  2. Amaury Marti can bend time and space. He can be wherever he wants to be whenever he wants to be.

  3. BA posted the full reports for NL teams this morning.

It mostly says what we’d expect — Hill hits a lot of home runs, Derba is a good catcher who hit better than expected, Mortensen got off to a great start — but it also throws in a few tidbits that surprised me:

    * Kozma played on artificial turf in high school, so he had to make an adjustment to real grass.

    * It lists Dan Descalso as Hill’s equal in the “best pure hitter” category. It also mentioned Tony Cruz.

    * Adam Riefer (11th round pick) has the best fastball, topping out at 96.

    * BA calls Brett Zawacki (12th round) the best of a “deep group of sleepers” including Riportella (lots of positive comments about his speed), Hill, Dew, and Derba. Cruz isn’t on this list, which seems like an oversight, given that he gets props for his bat earlier in the write-up. Or his name might’ve been edited out for space considerations in the print version of the story, which was picked up directly by the website. Or it could mean BA doesn’t see much potential for upward advancement.

  4. thanks for sharing lou. i wanted to check it myself, but since i’m at work i can’t log in with out locking myself out at home.

  5. As Todd noted above, Marti replaces Joe Mather, who has been shut down with a sore right elbow. The move is strictly precautionary.

Also, look for Kyle McClellan to be replaced shortly on the Mesa roster. He’s taking time off to get married. Not sure who his replacement will be.
