   McClellan also pitched a scoreless inning. One of Mathers’ hits (all singles) was a 10 pitch battle where he hit a “soft” grounder to the SS and beat it out (according to gameday anyway) another was a bloop but it is still 3-5. Nice showing all around it was a complete bullpen game though so this W is meaningless but he still earned it fair and square.

   I’ve got a question for anyone with knowledge. I see Mather stole a base tonight. Now, I thought that he was sort of slow afoot, and not real athletic. I realize that one stolen base doesn’t mean anything really, but I think I may have Mather confused with someone else. Anybody have some knowledge of his tool set? He may not be the guy I’ve been thinking of. (I didn’t get to see him play in person this season, except for, I believe, one pinch hit appearance, and he flew out to center. So I didn’t get a real good idea of what his overall game was.)

   What are the odds that Hoffpauir can make a push for a major league job in spring training? Does he need another year in the minors, or could he take over if someone would take on Kennedy?

   I think he will take Miles’ job this winter especially if TLR is gone. As long as Hoff continues his pace from the season he could very easily secure a job over Miles even with TLR as the manager.

   Hoffpauir will need a big spring training to stay in STL. Expect to see him in Memphis until someone gets injured.

   I hope you don’t mean that he will replace Tyler Johnson (who shares both his names with a dead president and his last name with 2), or Ryan Franklin, and I hope we aren’t bringing Preston Wilson back, and please don’t suggest that Richard Ankiel would get injured again, Oh I get it you mean Jimmy Edmonds don’t you??

    Mather is a big guy but I’ve always heard that he’s very athletic. Don’t know much about his speed.
