Well, this piece of news should’ve not been a surprise given all the rumors we’ve been hearing about Walt’s apparent unhappiness, but frankly I’m shocked. I feel blindsided and sad, yet sort of relieved that we won’t be selling off our best prospects for grizzled vets. Don’t get me wrong, the trades Jock has pulled have been mostly golden, many just plain legendary, at least until recent history. I take it LaRussa will be gone now too, we’ll see. Enter a new regime, but who?
Wow.

it sounds like they are going to go all out in the player development side and to do that they had to get away from jocketty and larussa and their veteran preference. the next GM is going to be a minor league/draft guy and while i am sad to see jocketty go, that does get me very excited. i think the #1 priority should be former dodger scouting director, current dodger assistant GM logan white. he was the best in the business in terms of drafting talent, and i can’t think of a better guy to head the organization with their new philosophy.
I couldn’t agree more with Logan White as an option. Amazing track record in drafting talent and viewed as an up and comer.
Nothing against Mozeliak, but he is one of Walt’s boys’ is he not? How does hiring Walt’s right hand man settle the “rift” in the front office if that was indeed the main reasoning behind all of this? I don’t see Moz getting the job.
I lost faith in Jocketty when it was reported the Cards offered 2 mid level prospects for Matt Morris at the deadline.
Bad enough Morris and his stats and salary, but to give up anything of value is just mindblowing.
Logan White is #1 on my list.
Here’s an interview with Mozeliak after 2004 draft. Most interesting comment may be how he considers himself more of a “financial” guy…

Wow, end of an era. Walt, thanks for the terrific run of success - 1996 to 2006 made this Cards fan awfully happy. Good luck to you.
What were White’s duties as an assistant GM with LA? If he was mainly able to just focus on the draft, that doesn’t make him the best overall GM candidate. We need someone that can do the WHOLE job, while being in concordance with whoever runs the minor league draft and development. Not saying White can’t, just wondering if he had the opportunity to show that while with LA.
If not, it sounds like he might be a better replacement for Luhnow than Jocketty….
I would love to see a development-focused guy brought in. It sounds like that is what Dewitt wants as well.
I’d love to see Paul DePodesta in St. Louis.
Wonder if we can get him away from the West Coast. He’s worked for the Athletics, then the Dodgers and now the Padres.
shane0–sounds like moz is the best of both worlds, but you have to laugh at parts of that interview…mike ferris..john gall, having to be “blown away” to trade haren… and the whole 2004 draft fiasco. yikes. hats off for trying something new, but that was brutal. looks like the tweaks have been made. i actually am liking moz quite a bit, i think he probably learned a lot from the good and the bad being around jock, but i hope they interview antonetti and depodesta as well.
i think mo should not get the job simply b/c he thought chris lambert was a “safer” option than phil hughes.
