84 losses assures the Cardinals will be picking #13 in the 2008 Rule IV draft. I guess that is the bright side you can look at now that this awful season is over. Will Aaron Crow still be on the board at 13? Eh, probably not.

It is about time we started getting things kicked off with the prospect profiles, and we’ll start things out with Brad Furnish. He’s been the subject of some conversation here lately, so I figure why not take a closer look at him?

Baseball America continues pumping out the scouting reports. The Midwest League is home to the Swing of Quad Cities in low-Class A. They pay in a pitchers park and last year featured a number of the Cardinals top prospects including Rasmus and Anderson. The Swing only captured a single spot on [...]

Lots o chats happening today, but this was one question posed at BP I definitely wanted to pass along.
wily mo (wily motown): hey, what about allen craig? once you realize he was in the FSL, that was probably one of the better hitting seasons in high-A (by a prospect-aged human). and he was a [...]

[Quick aside -- there's a BP chat with prospect guru Kevin Goldstein at noon central time today for those of you that would like to ask him questions. Baseball America's Aaron Fitt will have a chat at 1:30pm central about the NYP Top 20 for BA subscribers.]
Baseball America continues their march through the minors. [...]

I stumbled across Dan Szymborski’s Minor League Park Factors over at BBTF. There are a lot of issues with park factors and they should never ever ever be taken as more than a rough measuring stick, imo. The Cardinals parks rank from most pitcher friendly to least: Palm Beach, Memphis, Quad Cities [...]

Baseball America has their top 20 prospects out for the Appalachian League of which Johnson City is a part. The list is heavy on Twins and Braves prospects but the Cardinals managed to capture the number 7 slot with their number 1 draft pick Peter Kozma. The only player from the 2007 draft [...]

Springfield made it to the Texas League Championship Series this year in part because they had an excellent cast of hitters. Uber-prospect Colby Rasmus leads the way and I get the impression that someday writing about Rasmus will be as difficult as writing about Grady Sizemore or Jim Edmonds. He’s one of those [...]

I’m sure I’ve made mention of him before in the DPR’s, but I’ve been hearing Andres Rosales name here and there lately so I thought I should go back and check his stat page. The 19 year old right handed Colombian pitcher put up some pretty eye popping numbers. For the GCL team Rosales struck [...]

Great blog entry, he said exactly how I feel.
While watching the Yankees gain on the Red Sox and restore karmic balance to the AL East, I was struck by New York’s trio of rookie pitchers. Not that they sprang from the minors to stabilize a rickety rotation. No. The thought I couldn’t shake about the [...]

The Ballpark: Dwyer Stadium II. Review and photos of the park here, if you are interested. Park factors are: Run factor 1.04, Hit 1.03, 2B 1.04, HR, 0.86, BB 1.05, K 0.97 for 2007, three year combined is: 1.03, 1.07, 1.16, 0.88, 1.08, 1.08. So it does play as a slight hitters park, but [...]

Just an FYI -
BA is doing a “stat wrap” series at each level of the minors. They released AAA two days ago and AA today. I mention these in passing because there isn’t a lot of meat to the articles. . .they’re awfully similar to the numbers I run for the Visualizing Hitters [...]
