• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Arizona Fall League roster announced

MILB.com has announced the preliminary rosters for the Arizona Fall League. Some pretty big names in the Cardinal system will be headlining, the biggest name amongst them is Colby Rasmus. Other position players are Joe Mather and Jarrett Hoffpauir. Mitch Boggs and Stuart Pomeranz are among the starting pitchers, while Jason Motte and Chris Perez will be available in relief. That’s a rather impressive group representing.

60% of players who play in the AFL go onto to the pros. It’s basically a finishing school for the team’s top AA and AAA prospects, though a team is able to send one A ball player per season. Brendan Ryan, who hit .310 last season in the AFL was helped by his experience there after spending much of the season on the DL. Ryan Braun and Troy Tulowitzki are other notable AFLers in the league last year.

The season starts 10/9 and runs through 11/15.

  1. First innings has a player comparison on Rasmus http://firstinning.com/content/200708151

  2. jdk…saw that, more on tomorrow’s dpr amongst all the other praises of colby.

  3. Quite the dustup on that player comparison over at first inning in the comments. I’m quite surprised that Rasmus is going to the AFL. It makes me wonder if they aren’t considering jumping him to the majors. I would have liked Jon Jay to spend some time there instead.

  4. Does going to the AFL mean a player cannot have any Major League service time? I was hoping Jarrett Hoffpauir would be a September call up.

  5. I’m surprised Jon Jay or Cody Haerther aren’t going to the AFL. With all the time they missed due to injury I thought they’d go. I guess Tyler Greene probably won’t be healthy by the time the AFL season rolls around, I was hoping he might get a shot. I still hope the Cards push him and have him start the year at Memphis next year.

  6. By naming Joe Mather to the AFL squad, the Cards pretty much made it known that he’ll be added to the 40 man squad this winter.

Cody Haerther - look for him to head down to the islands this winter. I’ve got an email into him to find out for sure.
