• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Prospect Report 8/18/07

I’ve been on the go since 6am this morning and I’m beat. Let’s do this quickie style tonight.

Chris Lambert is still a terrible pitcher. Springfield plays a game and a half. Eddie Degerman impresses although he still lacks command. It’s a short but sweet Daily Prospect Report.

Memphis 7, Iowa 6

  • Skip Schumaker and Edgar Gonzalez both collected 2 hits. Gonzalez hit a pair of doubles.
  • Joe Mather goes 2-for-4 with a HR and a walk.
  • C Matt Pagnozzi goes 2-for-4 with a double and a HR.
  • Chris Lambert bombed in his start allowing 10 hits in 3 innings for 6 runs (5 earned).
  • After 4 middle relievers, Chris Perez came in to close out the game with a scoreless inning and 2 Ks.

Springfield 2, Corpus Cristi 3 (13 innings)

  • Colby Rasmus went 2-for-6 with a double.
  • Cody Haerther went 1-for-3 with a double and a pair of BBs.
  • Amaury Cazana Marti went 1-for-5 with a HR.
  • Cory Rauschenberger went 6.1 innings allowing 6 hits, 2 BBs and 1 K for 2 ER.
  • Mike Sillman threw 2 innings striking out 2.
  • Nick Webber takes the loss with an ugly box score. In 2.2 innings he walked 4 and allowed 2 hits while striking out just 1. We’ve seen better from Webber and it cost Springfield the game as their slide continues. In August they’ve won just 5 of 15 games. Only 2 of those 5 wins have been by more than 3 runs. Just an ugly stretch for the Double A team.

Palm Beach 9, Daytona 2

  • Mark Shorey went 1-for-2 with a HR and a pair of walks.
  • AJ Van Slyke and Brandon Yarbrough both had a pair of singles.
  • The Palm Beach squad collected 8 walks and only struck out 4 times.
  • Eddie Degerman had a great outing striking out 7 batters across 7 innings. He walked 4 (boo!) but only allowed 2 hits and had a 8-6 GO-AO ratio. He’s going to lose the strike zone from time to time but when he’s good, he can be very good.

Quad Cities 2, Burlington 4

  • Steve Hill goes 1-for-3 with a walk.
  • Jaime Landin goes 2-for-4.
  • Elvis Hernandez wasn’t at his best tonight allowing 4 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks.
  • The QC offense struck out 12 times against 1 walk. That’s sad.

Batavia 1, Auburn 2

  • Andrew Brown went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
  • After reaching on an error, Tommy Pham stole his 13th base.
  • Brandon Garner allowed 2 runs on 5 hits against 2 K. He only allowed 1 extra base hit (a double) so the opposition strung together some slap singles to get the win.
  • Jonathan Stambaugh struck out 4 in 4 innings against 1 BB and 2 hits.

Johnson City 7, Kingsport 8

  • 3B Nicholas Vera went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk. He was also CS twice.
  • Joseph Hage went 2-for-4.
  • 1B Matthew Arburr went yard.
  • Jose Mateo started and struck out 3 in 5 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits.

GCL Cardinals had the night off.

  1. Webber’s hit a wall lately, but tonight was simply, and inexcusably, the umpire finishing off a game himself as quickly as possible. Nothing like kicking a team when they’re down.

  2. Just think, the Cardinals could have drafted Phil Hughes instead of Lambert.
