Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.
Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Probably Fact. Looks like the bonus he wanted was $1.4 million or so, and I’m guessing the cards offer was $800k (if it was already published well, I’m a dummy.), I’m guessing next year he’ll get around a $2mil bonus.
Random prediction of the year to counter what I just said, he goes down with an elbow injury.
I expect him to go back, ping another 30 home runs with his awful aluminum swing, and get a $4M bonus from someone next year. After which he never hits above .200 in AA ball.
what’s crap is that the Cardinals didn’t sign him. Ponson and Spivey and the like get their 1 million $ contracts but not Russell. Makes one very angry.
Crap - Anyone read that Russell, not the Cards, was listed as one of the top 5 losers of the draft. The premise being he won’t have a better year (i.e. hitting 28 homers) and won’t prove he can hit better with wood. I think if he asked for $1.4M he should get off the crack rock. He was consensus 26-30 range on most boards and was asking for 15 range $s. If the Cards offered went up to $900K and he was stuck on $1.4M I say let him walk. It’s just unfortunate that the conversation did not take place earlier.
That said, we also wasted our 3rd round pick… Why waste 3 and 4? Oh well.
So strangely enough I am fine with letting this dude go, just wish we would have taken Porcello with the 18th pick. That would have made a statement…
Crap - I don’t think he’ll jump to sure fire 1st rounder. I’d guess 2nd rounder at best. He’ll probably have a similar season to what he had last year, but he could fall off considering he won’t have as powerful a lineup around him with Suttle being gone.
fact– he has two more years to play this game again
Crap!
As much as I like carlos gomez’s stuff, the thought is that if you let the ball get too deep in the hitting zone to generate more power, the more trouble you are going to have adjusting to the improved breaking pitches that imporve competion brings.
I laughed when I read his text messages to the Austin reporter. Sounded like a cocky kid who knows he can hit with an aluminum bat.
I figured he’s going back where he know he can succeed and expects to have a great season so he can get into the first round. However, I think a lot of teams are wise to his all or nothing swing and his lack of success for two seasons in a row.
He should have taken the money. He’ll be lucky to get that same offer next year.
I’m late to the game, but CRAP.
I don’ think his opposite field PING power is going to translate to wood. BigJawn hits it on the head.
