And I agree the Cards are just going to waste this money on a bad free agent signing might as well give it someone who has some upside. Matt slips in with my answer right as I reply. This stinks, just give him 1.5 mil and take a chance on the upside. I can’t wait to see the awful 5 million dollar player the Cardinals sign this winter. If they offer the lower and could sign him for 1M, the Cards will have lost Russell for 200K, just over 1/2 the major league minimum. There's no way they can let this happen. This guy's upside is too high to lose him over a guy half as good as Gary Bennett. Today’s p-d says the Cards will put together an offer in the 800K - 1M range. Pay the man already. Why do I have visions of Russell spurning the Cardinals, having a big season at UT, and turning himself into an even higher pick next season? Pay the man already.

Up until a day or 2 ago, I was really wanting the Cards to do what it takes to get a deal done. But the more I look at the wood bat numbers, the more concerned I get. There have been a lot of NCAA HR leaders whose aluminum bat power did not add up to wood bat power. I feel they have to get Stutes signed. The guy is a fierce competitor and a winner. C.J. Ziegler seems like an interesting guy. He has great size, put up big numbers this year, and may be just as athletic as Russell, as Ziegler was a HS QB. You could get Stutes and Ziegler and maybe one more unsigned player for what it will cost to get Russell. So what I am saying is, I don't know if I would spend the money on Russell or not. www.whiteyball.com I think I am torn.
