• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

8/14/07 Daily Prospect Report

Jumping straight in tonight after writing a deadline day eve rant. Springfield and Batavia were off tonight, and Palm Beach was postponed. Mark Shorey goes down to Palm Beach despite a .837 OPS in AA to take Jon Jay’s place, who is hurt yet again. They call him Mr. Glass. As for Shorey, that’s tough luck. He’s contending for PT with Haerther, Marti, Gorecki, not to mention Danielson will return from the DL probably this month.

Johnson City 1, Greeneville 6

NY Penn NL All Stars 4, AL All Stars 6

Memphis 1, Oklahoma 0

  • Awesome pitchers duel tonight. Mike Parisi was on the ball tonight, allowing 6 hits over 7 innings while striking out 4, walking none and inducing 10 ground balls. OK’s Edinson Volquez struck out 11 over 7 IP, and allowed 1 run on 4 hits and a walk.
  • Chris Perez picked up save #4, walking one and getting 2 fly outs and a ground out.
  • Brian Barden debuted tonight, driving in the only run of the game on a single.
  • Joe Mather and Skip Schumaker both doubled.

Quad Cities 7, Fort Wayne 6

  • Tyler Herron allowed 4 runs on a walk and 6 hits, including a HR while striking out 5.
  • Steve Hill hit a walk of RBI single in the 9th to win it. He went 2 for 5 with 3 RBI.
  • Daryl Jones keeps on raking. He went 2 for 4 with a double.
  • Christian Reyes homered.
  • Antonio DeJesus walked twice. That gives him something around a .250 isolated plate discipline. Er, that would be his OBP-his batting average. I think that’s pretty groovy.
  • Charles Fick allowed 2 runs over 1.1 innings.

GCL Cards 0, GCL Nationals 4

  • Stuart Pomeranz sighting. Pomeranz allowed 2 hits and struck out 1 over 2 innings.
  • Michael Blazek allowed 2 runs over 3 innings while walking 2 and striking out 2.
  • The GCL team was held to only 2 hits.
  • Charles Kingrey made his debut, going 0 for 2.

  1. Pistol Pete will be nothing before the mighty Justin Jackson.

  2. Ryan…it’s early, but he’s outhitting him now, and at a higher level.

  3. lol…I know. It’s just a dig at Goldstein for what he said about Kozma the other day.

  4. A couple of other moves yesterday by the Cards farm system - Memphis released MI Jolbert Cabrera and signed 34 y/o lefty reliever Mike Venafro, who was recently released by the Toronto organization (AAA). They also placed Hugo Castellanos on the 7 day DL.

Cards moved 3B/1B Rico Washington, who was rehabbing with the GCL club, to Springfield. That move was made to help strenghten the corner spots for the Cardinals. The move also means that Washington will be eligible for the AA playoffs. Yesterday was the last day that Texas League teams could make moves to their rosters for the playoffs.

And for those that are interested, Springfield will be selling playoff tickets to the general public today. See their website for information on how to purchase.

  5. Does that mean Shorey can’t come back up for the playoffs? I also assume it means that Ottavino won’t be up for the playoffs :(

  6. Goold says no Russell:

    ———–
Cardinals’ fourth-round pick and NCAA home run leader Kyle Russell punched out the following text message to an Austin reporter this morning:

You have to watch my tall lanky (bad self) for another year

  7. Correct on both accounts - Carioacardinal

  8. A little OT but per Goldstein’s chat today:

Bill J (New Mexico): How much of a leg up does college experience give a guy who’s just arriving at A ball? I ask because St. Louis has two guys from later rounds in their 2007 draft, Steve Hill and Nick Derba, who are absolutely terrorizing the Midwest League after brutalizing NY/Penn. Any chance they’re real sleepers, or is this a case of 21-year-old college kids having effectively bypassed the level just because they were in college?

Kevin Goldstein: Depends on the kid, and depends on the college. One team source tells me the ‘07 draftee on that Quad Cities team who’s the real sleeper is neither Hill nor Derba, but rather Arnoldi Cruz.
