Nothing newsworthy to post today, so let’s just jump into the day’s action.
- Blake Hawksworth allowed just 1 run on 6 hits, striking out 7. His 7 K’s tied a season high, matching his last start.
- Skip Schumaker went 2 for 5 with a double and a walk.
- Tagg Bozied homered and walked twice.
- Jarrett Hoffpauir went 2 for 5.
- Joe Mather walked twice and singled.
- Brian Falkenborg couldn’t hold the lead in the 9th. (where was Chris Perez?)
- Hugo Castellanos allowed 3 runs in the 12th.
Springfield 7, Corpus Christi 6
- Colby Rasmus initially had the night off, but came in the 6th inning and hit the go ahead homer in the 8th inning, his 20th of the season.
- Reid Gorecki returned to the Springfield lineup, he went 0 for 3 with 2 K’s.
- Also coming through of the bench was Amaury Marti, who tied the game with a homer in the 7th.
- Bryan Anderson was also being rested tonight, and he didn’t see any action but his replacement Henry Guerrero hit a solo blast in the 6th.
- Jose Martinez went 3 for 5. He’s hitting .391 in the month of August.
- Cody Haerther doubled.
- Cory Meacham allowed 4 earned runs in 5.1 innings off of 5 hits and 2 walks, with 4 K’s and 8 ground ball outs. Runamucker also doubled.
- Mike Sillman threw in his 2nd game for Springfield, walking 1 and striking out 2.
- Eddie Degerman struggled with his control this spring, that’s why he was kept in an extended spring while others were making starts. He was great of QC, but seems to have lost it since coming up to the FSL. He walked 5 batters in 5 innings while throwing 2 wild pitches, and allowed 4 runs while striking out 7. He’s still missing bats, but without command he’s just a sideshow attraction. Sorry, have to say it how I see it.
- Dan Nelson drew two walks, and homered.
- Donovan Solano went 2 for 4.
- Brandon Buckman went 2 for 5.
- Allen Craig went 0 for 4, striking out 3 times.
- Daryl Jones had a huge day, going 4 for 5 with a double, homer and 4 RBI. The homer was walk off. Loaded with talent but raw as sushi, hopefully this is the start of him turning tools into game. He’s batting .425 over his last 11 games.
- Steve Hill went yard for the 2nd consecutive game.
- Jaime Landin went 2 for 4 with a double.
- Elvis Hernandez allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and a walk, striking out 7. He runs came on a 2 run homer.
- I don’t know, i just find it funny the whole state of Vermont is represented by a short season team. Go Green Mountain state! And Go Lake Monsters! The people of Montpelier salute you!
- Ugly game for the pitchers. Pete Parise was the main suspect, allowing 5 earned runs over 4.2.
- Another player whose tools haven’t translated to game produced tonight. Thomas Pham walked, doubled and tripled.
- Charles Pelt went 2 for 4 and scored twice.
- Osvaldo Morales went yard again, hit 10th of the year in 143 at bats. According to manager Joe Almaraz, it was not cheapie, rather an estimated 450 foot blast to dead center.
- Nicholas Vera went 3 for 4.
- Pete Kozma walked, struck out, and committed his 5th error.
GCL Cardinals 5, GCL Dodgers 13
- Brian Buck went 3 for 3.
- Edwin Conde doubled and drove in 2 runs.
- James Hooker allowed 6 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks over 3.2 IP, striking out 4.

What position would Tommy Pham most likely stick at in the majors, If he can ever hit consistantly?
I always thought Vermont’s Phinest would be a funny name, especially if they could get Trey Antasio as a team owner.
Jose is back!
They shouldn’t have been so quick to move Pham to the OF. We have plenty of OFers in the system.
i would at least have tried pham at 2nd before moving him to the outfield, but from what i have heard there was no way he would have stuck at short.
I really hope the Cardinals do something like this. That would be something I would absolutely go to.
erik - Perez had pitched two days in a row.
few- Pham has an awkward throwing motion and release (hard to describe) but unless fixed, he’d never be able to turn the double play.
Az - that futures DH sounds like a great idea.
carioca, i have read about pham’s awkward throwing motion. it makes you wonder how he was such a good pitching prospect.
When I saw him (Pham) at the FL instructs, his motion was sort of bring it behind the ear and then drop down almost sideways.
