• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Prospect Report 7/28/07

At my internship, I file documents, make some phone calls and generally do all the work that no one wants to. (PS - I’m a full graduate working on my Masters in Electrical Engineering. It’s the worst internship ever.) How do I get this intership!!!

Jim Masilak is quickly becoming a thorn in my side. Here’s another poorly written recap of the Memphis game.

By promoting Ferris to Memphis last week in the midst of another uninspiring season, the Cardinals’ message to the Evansville, Ind., native seems clear: It’s time for the former second-round pick to sink or swim.

First of all, make the cliches stop. It’s gimmicky writing. Second of all, the Cardinals promoted him because Mark Hamilton was taking over at 1B. Mike Ferris sank long ago. And then this brillant quote from Ferris:

“The expectations were up here,” says Ferris, holding his left hand out at head height, in regard to his early days in the Cardinals organization. “I don’t want to say I haven’t fulfilled them, but I haven’t played as well as people expected me to.”

Mike, I hate to break the news to you but it’s safe to say you didn’t fulfill the expectations. O wait, it gets better:

“With the year I had last year, I was expecting it,” Ferris said. “But I had a good spring and I was the first guy (promoted).”

Ferris, 24, hit .212 with one homer and nine RBI in nine games for Palm Beach before graduating to Double-A Springfield.

I’m not sure why Masilak would print that quote and then add his statistics. Unless this is a backhanded ‘gotcha’ moment, in which case, kudos Jim.

Chris Lambert is still a bad pitcher. Steve Hill goes boom. Osvaldo Morales puts on a fielding exhibition (the bad kind). And finally, Pete Kozma is alive. It’s your Daily Prospect Report.

Memphis 3, Fresno 7

  • Brendan Ryan goes 2-for-5 with a double. He was exceptional in his major league stint and really surprised me. His minor league numbers are still just ok but he acquitted himself well.
  • Edgar Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a double.
  • Tagg Bozied went 2-for-4 with a double.
  • Chris Russ and Hugo Castellanosboth pitched scoreless frames.
  • Chris Lambert and Troy Cate were terrible each allowing 3 runs. Lambert did so in 3 innings while Cate did so in a single inning.

Springfield 7, Wichita 8

Palm Beach 4, St. Lucie 3

Quad Cities 6, Burlington 4

  • Antonio DeJesus goes 2-for-4 and stole 2 bases.
  • Steve Hill was the starting catcher. He went 4-for-5 with a HR. The opposition had 5 stolen bases on Hill, so he may be headed back for LF.
  • Elvis Hernandez only lasted 3 innings allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and 5 walks. Sounds like he just didn’t have command of his pitches.
  • Michael Schellinger and Kyle Mura pitched 6 scoreless innings allowing 4 hits and 1 BB while striking out 4.

Batavia 7, Jamestown 0

  • = Collin Fanning.
  • Daniel Descalso went 2-for-4 with a pair of walks and a triple.
  • 1B Andrew Brown went 2-for-3 with a HR and a walk.
  • Tommy Pham went 3-for-4 with a walk and stole his 8th base.
  • Thomas Eager went 4.1 innings allowing 4 hits and 1 BB while striking out 4.
  • Clayton Long picked up his first save allowing 1 hit, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

GCL Cardinals 2, GCL Dodgers 8 (Game 1: 7 innings)

  • Pete Kozma sighting!!! He went 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout.
  • Edgar Lara went 2-for-4.
  • Osvaldo Morales went yard. He also had 4 (!) errors at 3B.
  • Pablo Ortiz allowed 2ER (6 runs) on 6 hits while striking out 3 in 3.1 innings.
  • The wind was at 1mph and varying direction during the game. Thank you stupid box score entry.

GCL Cardinals 5, GCL Dodgers 3 (Game 2: 9 innings)

  • Pete Kozma was playing RF and went 0-for-2. Why the hell was Kozma in RF???
  • Guillermo Toribio went 3-for-4 playing SS.
  • Osvaldo Morales went 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and a walk. He was, not surprisingly, moved to 1B for this game.
  • Matt Spade threw 1 innings striking out 1 to snatch the win.
  • Rigoberto Lugo threw a scoreless 9th allowing 1 hit, 1 BB and 2 Ks while getting his 3rd save.

  1. You haven’t heard the best part of the Redbirds game — Ankiel, Bozied, and Rick Eckstein participated in a Jerry Lawler wrestling match after the game.

  2. I’m glad they chose Ankiel for that - if anyone could come through it unscathed, it would be “Resilient Rick.” Don’t worry, he was cleared by the Cardinals medical staff.

  3. Steve Hill and Tony Cruz= new Mark Hamilton and Allen Craig

    These are some exciting players
