• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Prospect Report 7/18/07

What an awful set of boxscores I’m forced to bring you tonight. Without preamble or comment, please begin the funeral dirge as we enter the Daily Prospect Report.

Memphis 2, Oklahoma 5

  • Rick Ankiel went 2-for-4. It’s ok to still hit HR’s Rick. The increased average is nice but you can still hit the longball from time to time. Try to mix it in just for us.
  • Tagg Bozied went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.
  • Really a blech start for Mike Parisi despite being a “quality start”. He allowed 6 hits and 6 BBs over 6 innings with 6 Ks. 6’s wild with just 3 ER.

Springfield 1, Tulsa 6

  • I don’t want to but I have standards to maintain, Colby. It’s not that I still don’t love Razzle Dazzle (worst nickname ever?) but 0-for-4 with 4 Ks gets the .
  • The Juan’s (Richardson and Lucena) each reach base twice. Both had a walk and Lucena tallied a triple as well. They both got picked off first base as well.
  • Jaime Garcia had another so-so outing. 6 innings allowing 5 hits, 3ER, 4BBs and 6 K. Without looking at the splits, my gut says Garcia hasn’t really made any improvements over the season. He’ll twirl a gem from time to time but there’s no consistency. He still had an 8:4 GO:AO ratio.

Palm Beach 3, Lakeland 5

  • Brandon Buckman and Chris Grossman both went 2-for-4.
  • Dan Nelson wnet 0-for-2 with 2 BBs. (Seriously, this is the mediocrity that was the best I could find for the report today.)
  • Hey, I see some good news. Trey Hearne struck out 5 in 2 innings allowing no hits or walks.
  • Brad Furnish lost his first start at PB. He went 5 innings allowing 3 hits and 2 BBs including a HR. All told he got tagged for 4 runs (3 earned) while striking out 2. It looks like the defense betrayed PB tonight though with 4 errors.

Quad Cities 4, Great Lakes 10 (7 innings)

  • The game was (thankfully) shortened due to rain.
  • Antonio DeJesus picked up a pair of walks in the leadoff spot and stole a base.
  • Steve Hill went 2-for-4 but got CS and picked off first. This kind of crap pisses me off just reading it, I can’t imagine what that’s like to watch. (I’ve mentally blocked all the Cardinal baserunning gaffes from the 2004 WS.)
  • Tyler Herron got pummelled. In 5 innings he allowed 6 hits, 2BBs and a HBP combining those with the 2 HR allowed coughed up 7 runs.
  • Jason Cairns came on and pitched a craptacular inning.

Batavia 3, Tri-city 5

  • Honk if you’re still reading the DPR.
  • 2B Jose Garcia went 2-for-4.
  • 1B Andrew Brown hit a HR.
  • DH William Groff went 2-for-4 with a HR. What a funny last name — Groff. Go ahead and say it with me Grooooffffff. (chuckles)
  • The pitchers in this game are not worth mentioning.

Johnson City 5, Kingsport 11

  • Seriously, throw me a bone. These games are so terrible.
  • Beau Riportella went 2-for-3 with a pair of HRs.
  • Jon Edwards hit a HR.
  • Dognnt committed his 13th error.
  • Jon Additon pitched 4.1 innings allowing 7 hits, 1 BB and 4 Ks for 1 ER.
  • Wladimir Mendoza struck out 3 in 2 innings.

GCL Cardinals 8, GCL Dodgers 9

  • So close to having a team win.
  • Edgar Lara hit a grand slam.
  • 1B Osvaldo Morales had 3 hits on the night including a double.
  • D’ Marcus Ingram went 1-for-3 with a pair of walks but was picked off and caught stealing. Someone needs to take these kids out behind the shed when they get caught twice in a game like that.
  • James Hooker was probably the best pitcher for the GCL Cardinals striking out 5 in 3 innings but he allowed 2 hits with the second being a badly timed homerun.

Did you make it all the way through? Do those games make you want to go play in traffic? Ya, me too. Hopefully today’s games are better.

  1. I made it through!!!

    Do I get a donut?

  2. I read it…can I have a cookie?

  3. Sidd - maybe a Dognnt?

  4. Looking hard for good news:

Beau Riportella is now hitting .386/.422./.506/.928 for JC, with 7 steals and 0 CS. He’s second in the Appy League in batting average, and the guy who leads the league is 3 1/2 years older.

Edgar Lara is hitting .256/.326/.538/.864 for the GCL Cards.

We’re talking about a pair of 18-year-old corner outfielders (Ripper turns 19 next month), both 6-3 and 200+ pounds.

We may not have good teams at that level, but we do have some guys who look like players.

  5. I see that Travis Mitchell caught for JC. Is this a new position for him, or have I just not been observant?

  6. I read it too. No love for Tony Cruz?

  7. honk!

grand slams are good. and i’m on the b-ripper bandwagon. woo!

  8. Silent George - I can’t recall Mitchell starting at C off the top of my head but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t. We’ve seen Alvarado and Mulligan get time behind the plate.

  9. I’ve noticed that pick-off scoring is a little weird in the MILB box scores. In a lot of cases, the same play is scored as a PO as well as a CS. If you check the game log, you’ll see that Ingram only got caught once (picked off and then tagged out at second). Hill, on the other hand, did get caught twice (picked off on one play and then caught stealing on another).

Man, I can’t believe I looked into this - I definitely have too much time on my hands.

  10. I played with Travis at high school and I never seen or heard of him playing catcher. He always was an outfielder but maybe the Cards had him try it? He does have a great arm.
