• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Prospect Report 7/13/07

I went and saw the new Harry Potter movie tonight. I’m not really a Potter fanatic in that I’ve never read the books (although I intend to) but I really enjoy the movies. Plus, a lady friend was wanting to go so I figured what the hell. Let me say that this was by far and away the best of the movies so far. What’s unfortunate is that the subtleties of the acting and script are lost on the 14-year old girls in Griffindor scarves and Potter capes. They laugh at scenes that are meant to be serious and giggle when people kiss. That was annoying.

For anyone familiar with the films, however, the acting by two characters in particular is quite good. Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) and Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) easily capture any scene they are in. They stand heads above the rest of the cast in all the previous movies. This time they were joined by Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton) who outshone them both. She plays the perky fascist role to perfection. In any event, I’m glad I watched that than the Cardinals getting their a$$e$ handed to them tonight.

Quad Citians (they call themselves this on their radio stations — honest to God) went deep three times. A-ball on up won their games tonight. Rick Ankiel did not hit a home run. Jarrett Hoffpauir just keeps hitting. And Springfield brought their bats in tonight’s Daily Prospect Report!

  1. Arnoldi Cruz, you are starting to intrigue me a bit, good sir.

  2. I have to wonder what the Cards are thinking with Cruz. His first month in pro ball, and he’s now played at four different levels, in four different parts of the country. I could see moving him up from the GCL if it was clear from Day One that he was too advanced for that level of competition. What I can’t figure out is why he needed to spend a week at each of the next two stops before landing in the Midwest League.

Maybe it has to do more with moving other players around. I hope it’s not an evaluation thing — “Holy cow, he’s too good for this league too! Let’s move him up again!” Even Albert got to spend a half-season at Peoria in 2000 before he started leapfrogging up the system.

  3. can’t wait to see the movie, i should be going today sometime. i never read the books either, but i’ve seen all the movies and they get better as they go on. my wife is a pretty big fan of the movies and books, she wanted to watch it 4 times already.

i thought that was a good read. it’s good to remember that colby is not simply hype.

  5. Cruz went boom again tonight. Time to move up to Palm Beach I guess :)

  6. Was not impressed with the movie, and Erik, your wife will more than likely be upset. I found the HP series in Iraq and really liked the first four movies. I understand that a lot of things get left out during the transformation, but wow, the fifth left more questions than it gave answers.

Just my take, I know, but my fiance was much more upset. I guess she would be considered a ‘fanatic’ but at least the seventh book will be here soon. All the rest of the nerds out there like me have something to look forward to now that the Cards are struggling.

  7. i saw the movie and really liked it, actually. i don’t know how they’re gonna squeeze out 2 more movies before Harry starts looking more like Hagrid, however.

  8. He is getting a little old for the part. What did your wife think of it? Everyone I know that has only seen the movies liked it for the most part. I’ll stick with the books since then I can keep the Harry/Hagrid comparisons out of the equation.
