• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Futures Game 2007 Game Thread

9-2, 3.52 (AA)

9-5, 3.75 (AAA)

GAME TIME 3:00 CDT

Just for the fun of it, I decided to throw up a game thread for the Futures game. Hope someone notices, I’ll be here at the computer watching the game so I figured what they hey. Here’s a little primer on how the Futures Game works. And here again is who you need to know on the rosters per Bryan Smith. Here’s the lineups-

WORLD
Michael Saunders, cf, Mariners
Chin-Lung Hu, ss, Dodgers
Wladimir Balentien, rf, Mariners
Joey Votto, 1b, Reds
Max Ramirez, dh, Indians
German Duran, 2b, Rangers
Robinzon Diaz, c, Blue Jays
Carlos Gonzalez, lf, Diamondbacks
Freddy Sandoval, 3b, Angels

UNITED STATES

Jacoby Ellsbury, lf, Red Sox
Justin Upton, cf, Diamondbacks
Evan Longoria, 3b, Devil Rays
Ian Stewart, dh, Rockies
Steven Pearce, 1b, Pirates
Brent Lillibridge, ss, Braves
Jay Bruce, rf, Reds
Chris Coghlan, 2b, Marlins
Bryan Anderson, c, Cardinals

And courtesy of First Inning, here are the full rosters. Colby will be coming off the bench, no shame in following Upton. Nice to see Anderson get the start.

Oh, and Nate Silver is liveblogging the event.

And I should also say if you are a new commenter and you see your comment will be held in moderation, don’t let that discourage you from posting. I’m checking them often and freeing them as I see them. After that, you’re free to comment as much as you want without interference. (Unless I deem interference necessary.)

  1. Anderson gets the start at first?

Colby should be in LF instead of that scrub Jacoby(half joking), oh well. Hopefully he gets more PT coming off the bench.

  2. i kinda agree with you Shhh…Colby has a little better production, depending on what stats you look at.

  3. Erik, if you had to select the top 5 prospect in the minors, who would be your top 5?

  4. Steve Phillips: Mute.

    Erin Andrews: Slo-Mo.

  5. Exactly liam, I’m sure Phillips hasn’t even heard of half these players before. It’s amazing how an ex-GM knows so little.

  6. man, that is very hard. i’d put justin upton and jay bruce 1 and 2…let me think about the other 3…

  7. If you have Bruce #2 then more than likely #3 would be Hughes, unless you don’t want to count him because he’s played in the bigs already. (dont wanna speak for you though)

  8. ugh. got one on anderson, but i like his pop time there. very good. stole that one on niemann, not anderson at all

  9. Man a stolen base on Anderson, although it was more off Niemann.

  10. Another off Anderson.

  11. next would be hughes, i still like homer bailey then longoria might be next. another steal on niemann, that’s not on anderson

  12. Neither of those stolen bases were off Anderson. Yadi wouldn’t of thrown out either of those guys. Slow delivery by Niemann plus huge jumps by the runners.

  13. you can see that anderson isn’t the smoothest back there. i can see why he has the passed ball problems.

  14. Ok, they need to put Rasmus in already.

  15. go colby…you fabulous reserve you. i have to say, i root for netherlands players without discretion.

  16. They need to hurry up and put Deolis and Clayton pitching, pretty interested to see how those 2 youngins pitch.

  17. kershaw i’ve seen in the MWL all star game, but i’m looking forward to seeing him again.

  18. So, next year the Futures game should be taking place in newBusch…correct?

  19. wow. way to go down and get it…Robinzon. odd spelling of name.

  20. lopey–next year is at Yankee, then Busch.

  21. Oh alright, i thought the 08′ all star game was at Busch. Any idea how the tickets for this work, do you have to buy tickets to the MLB All Star game in order to go to the Futures game or do they sell tickets strictly for the Futures game?

  22. They need to have a skills competition for the Futures Game.

  23. anderson blocked the ball ok there, but it got away enough to let the runner advance. lopey, i’m not sure.

  24. Nice, by Bruce.

  25. good god…bruce is a monster. scary good. he’s gonna love great american

  26. the socks must be a cardinal thing. looked bad on a breaking ball to strand ‘em. dang it.

  27. Didn’t wanna see Anderson K, but oh well.

  28. Is Anderson a switch-hitter or just a lefty at the plate?

  29. and my dish stops working….@#$!@#$

  30. lopey. anderson throws right, bats left.

  31. Nice of Thorne to point out that all these stolen bases have come off the pitcher.

  32. These pitchers are trying to make Anderson’s box score look bad.

  33. another steal off the pitcher, not anderson. yeesh. nice throw, though…he’s pretty quick.

  34. Most of the players on Springfield wear the high striped sox. You’re right, Bruce is a monster. Watching Chamberlan, it makes me think what might have been. He was drafted after Ottavino.

hey erik, when I saw Anderson a couple of weeks ago, I really believe he is athletic enough to switch positions. What do you think?

    http://www.whiteyball.com

  35. good throw

  36. One for Anderson.

  37. wow. that throw was right there. quick release, accurate. and this dude can hit. my man crush on anderson has gotten even bigger.

  38. whiteyball…i think we just saw why he should stay behind the plate.

  39. Well Buehrle just agreed to the extension it looks like. Time to trade for Burnett! Just not for anyone good.

  40. Upton is a beast. just wow.

  41. And thats why Upton is the best prospect in the game.

  42. This USA roster is stacked, Ellsbury has been in the majors already, Longoria would be there if the DRays didn’t bring in Iwamura, Bruce and Upton are the top 2 prospects in the game imho.

  43. Anyone know if the Futures uniforms can be purchased? I’d love to get a Rasmus one.

  44. hardcore..i looked at the milb.com shop and didn’t see any futures game jerseys. that would be a missed opportunity if they aren’t selling them.

  45. Thanks Erik. I hadn’t realized Anderson would be starting. I tuned it, saw the catcher throw down, with that gear on and then do the ‘chest wipe’ thing that Yadi always does to adjust his gear and I said “Man, that looks like Yadi”

Turns out to be Anderson behind the dish. The pitchers aren’t helping him but he is getting run on.

  46. I was lookin’ for them as well, i could’ve swore i saw an ad for them somewhere about a week ago. I don’t believe you’ll be able to specifically purchase a Rasmus, you’d probably have to use the customizing option and pay a little extra, but small price to pay for a nice collectors item.

  47. i really hope they let us see rasmus…

  48. nevermind

  49. hardcore..i think your comments are getting caught because of your name. wordpress has filters and i think the word “hardcore” is setting it off :) you may wanna go by HL.

and yeah, they’re running. probably just to showcase. anderson has made some great throws, it’s all been the pitchers. he did gun one on the last attempt on him.

  50. rasmus is now in CF, er unless you hadn’t already heard.

  51. nice range, colby

  52. Nice catch, Razamataz.

  53. When will Rasmus bat? I was going out for pizza but don’t want to miss it.

  54. Razzle Dazzle. Hopefully he gets at least 2 ABs and this thing goes into OT.

  55. Smooth catch by colby.
Has anyone else noticed where Anderson holds his right hand when catching…looks dangerous. One unfortunate foul ball and he could be out for awhile.

  56. Good ol Walt, maybe he can tell us why the hell Kozma and Russell aren’t playing.

  57. walt’s there, and is on the mic. does it mean he’s there because he’s looking to sell and not buy?

  58. Yeah, hopefully hes there to get Justin and Jay.

  59. How does ESPN find a way to get a ‘Jose Reyes’ plug into the futures game?

  60. Not sure if you were joking there at 55, Shhh, but this game is over after 7 innings, regardless of score. No extras.

  61. Actually, I believe it is tied, that can play up 2 extra innings to get a winner.

    Rasmus bats 2nd next inning.

  62. I can dream, can’t I? Really though, they need to get Deolis and Clayton in this game.

  63. And like the Dirty HL said, I do think they play 2 extra innings if tied.

  64. Hmm, was just reading the comments made by the Blue Jays GM, it sure sounds like he just wants to unload Burnett so that he can forget about the fact that he signed him. I bet we wouldn’t have to give much up to get him if we were willing to take on most of his contract. He is the kind of High Risk/High Reward guy that the Cardinals refuse to roll the dice on though.

  65. hochevar doesn’t have the best curveball, or at least he didn’t show it a lot there.

  66. Almost Raz time. Kid better get a double or else….

  67. Deolis vs. Rasmus, nice!

  68. Also, the Cardinals don’t like to be scorned. Burnett left a deal on the table with St. Louis, so I doubt that they’d even consider bringing him back.

Burnett can opt out of his deal after next season, so maybe a 1-year potential rental wouldn’t be TOO bad.

    His contract remaining:
    08:$12M
    09:$12M
    10:$12M

What did the Cardinals originally offer him?

  69. can o’ corn for cojack. oh well.

  70. Darn, got him to pop out. Hopefully he’ll get another at bat but it doesn’t look likely.

  71. Hrmph…guess we’ll just have to wait for his walkoff HR

  72. just a little bit outside there.

  73. Juuuuust a bit outside.

  74. No idea what the Cards original offer was to him HL, but it would seem if we can get the Blue Jays to swallow 2 million a year, a 3 year/30 million dollar deal would not be bad. But, like i said, High Risk/High Reward is not the Cards style.

  75. Poor Deolis, don’t these guys know he’s only 18, they shouldn’t be doing that to him.

  76. whittleman posted a .241 ISO, buckman had a .249. nice little drive on a a hanger.

  77. Whittleman is also 3 years younger….

  78. Wow, I really want a job at Sam Adams. Beer during the workday, yummy!

  79. Wow, Reds players are mashin’ today.

  80. Every time Buchholz is on tv, someone is taking his thunder, first Clemens (although he out-pitched Clemens) now Votto.

  81. Alright fellas, I am out. Thanks for settin up a thread for the futures game, it was nice hearing everyones thoughts on some of these prospects, especially Anderson. I haven’t been able to decide wether the Cards will want to go with Anderson or wether they will try to trade him off and stick with Yadier. Anyway, i’m out, later all.

  82. i have a feeling we’ll be hearing from bruce and votto’s names pretty soon. and that ain’t a good feeling.

  83. Eh, Colby will be up before Bruce. Votto should already be up, but Hatteberg is playing too well right now.

  84. So, looks like Rasmus will get another AB today. Cardenas will ground out, the 1st 2 hitters in the 7th will get on and Rasmus will tie it up with a Bay splashdown.

    Right?

  85. Yeah, and then Russell will sign HL.

  86. Finally Kershaw, been waiting for him, hopefully he impresses.

  87. Ok, not so good, ball just kept going and going.

  88. Ok, so Rasmus can relax now, with his AB being meaningless.

  89. ah, another easy fly ball. at least he took it to the opposite field.

  90. i want 2 more innings!

  91. Hey Guys:

Smith’s article says that Colin Ballester, pitcher Washington Nats, is an also ran. I have him in a moderately deep 8 minor keeper for a 12 team fantasy league. Straight 5X5 league. Anybody have any thoughts on that? I’m pretty shallow at pitching. We only keep six guys a year and those look to be: Utley, Sheffy (though I’m waivering on this one), Sheets, Sabathia, Figgins, and Hunter. I also add Braun, Chris Young, Carlos Gomez, and Salty as free keepers.

Do I drop Ballester? My other pitching is Kershaw and Carrasco from Philly. I thought Ballester is consider a legit number two starter prospect.

Sorry, for the non Card fantasy question, but I appreciate the regulars around here as sound baseball minds.

Oh, and Hardcore Legend is THE BEST handle. I mark everytime I see that.

Erik, Bryan Anderson is also nice to elderly people, kids, and baseball geeks. Those being in reverse order, me, my nephew, and my mother in law. Nice, nice kid. I have a man crush on him as well.

I saw Evan Longoria a few weeks back, and that guy does everything right, hits, hits for power, draws walks, advances the extra base, fields, whatever. He jumped pretty high up my list after that.
