• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

7/2/07 Daily Prospect Report

Adam Daniels, Adam Ottavino and Tyler Herron took Pitcher of the Week honors in their respective leagues for their performances last week. Herron was also on BA’s Prospect Hot Sheet this week.

The Cardinals’ supplemental first-round pick in 2005 out of a Florida high school pitched 10 innings last week, giving up one earned run while striking out 11 and walking just one. Herron has been a control freak lately, walking just two batters in 32 innings in June.

Walt and Co. are getting a little impatient with Kozma and the Hendricks Bros.

Looks like we’ll be seeing Anthony Reyes more in the daily reports. Just trade him already, I want to see him succeed elsewhere at this point.

Alright, let’s get on with the scores:

Memphis 2, New Orleans 3

Tagg Bozied went 2 for 4 a HR.
Rick Ankiel went 0 for 3.
Mike Parisi was solid, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks, striking out 6.

Springfield 3, Frisco 8

Rasmus went 0 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout.
Mike Ferris went 2 for 2 with a walk.
Cory Rauschenwrecker allowed 6 runs on 9 hits over 2.2 innings.
Matt Scherer gave up a 2 run HR.

Palm Beach was rained out, so Carp’s rehab will have to start another day.

QC 6, Wisconsin 9

Shaun Garceau, one of my favorite pet prospects, got lit up again. He allowed 8 runs, however only 2 were earned. He gave up 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3.
Donovan Solano went 2 for 3.
Tim Dorn homered.

Batavia 0, State College 1

The offense was held to 2 hits.
Jess Todd allowed just 1 hit while striking out 5 in 4 innings. He also walked 3.
Blake King didn’t allow a run and gave up just 1 hit, but walked 5 batters while striking out 2. Thats 49 walks over 59.2 innings.

Johnson City 3, Kingsport 4

Arnoldi Cruz is stinging it. He went 3 for 4 with a double and a homer, while drawing a walk.
Travis Mitchell went 3 for 4 with a double. Jonathan Edwards went 2 for 4.
Beau Riportella went 1 for 5 with 3 strikeouts.
Paul Vasquez went 2 for 4 with a HR.

GCL Cards 8, GCL Mets 6

Osvaldo Martinez hit 2 homers and a double, and went 3 for 4. The 19 year old 3rd baseman has a 1.057 OPS in 35 at bats.
Edwin Conde drove in 3 runs and was 2 for 4 with a triple.
Deryk Hooker allowed 1 run on 3 hit over 2 innings, striking out 4.
Mike Blazek blew the lead but got the W as he allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 1.2 innings, striking out 3.

  1. Can we get Rauschenberger out of the bleepin’ rotation already? What do they need to see to know that he’s NOT WORKING OUT!

  2. It would seem that he’s just holding a place until the next guy from Palm Beach (Ottavino, Norrick) is “ready” for AA. Apparently the powers that be don’t think either one is ready yet…

  3. A Reyes thought: I understand the inclination to trade him since he’s not getting a chance to do his thing in the majors and since many think he’d do better in a place where he could use a pitching style that is more comfortable for him. But, given all those rumblings about TLR (and presumably Duncan) stepping down after this year, Reyes may well get that different environment in St. Louis next year. And you gotta figure his trade value is way down. I’m not opposed to trading him in the right deal, but I’m not sure it’s necessary.

  4. Adam Ottavino ranks in the FSL among pitchers still there:
    5th in ERA
    2nd in k%
    11th in GB%
    6th in FIP

Adam Ottavino should be starting in AA right now.

  5. I don’t disagree that Ottavino should be in AA right now.

I wonder if they’re holding off to get the guys at SS a few more innings before they move them up to Quad Cities, then do a domino move-up. Ottavino last year had 28.2 innings in SS before they moved him up. Right now, Todd has 16 and Mortensen has 10, and to me those seem like the obvious 2 to get moved up. Maybe they want to get them a few more innings before doing a 2-3 level move-up.

Also, Ottavino will be 22 the entire season next year, and I have to think they’d like him to spend the entire year at AA. Figure half a season at AAA (best-case scenario), and he’d make the show at 23, which is still pretty young. That probably has a lot to do with their hesitancy to move him quickly.

  6. re: SS ball, that’s a good point and could very well be the case.

re: Adam’s age. they were aggressive with Garcia, Rasmus and Anderson. If Ottavino is succeeding, he should move up. Especially given how dismal Rauschenberger has been. I’d love to see Ott spend the second have in AA and then repeat next year there to start. No problem with that. I just don’t think he needs to be in a pitchers park in A-ball any longer.

  7. It crossed my mind that maybe the organization sees Ottavino as Chris Lambert 2.0(they have a few things in common). In his first full year, Lambert was promoted after just 10 starts at Palm Beach and has never been the same. Maybe they’re going to let Ott get a full season in at PB and let him build confidence…
