Johnson City and the GCL Cardinals both had their games postponed. This time the site is actually updated (surprise!).
We’ve got some high scoring games tonight. Rasmus rolls. Hoffpauir does something out of the ordinary. Buckman says hello. The Cardinals continue to trot out relievers as starters. . .
It’s all here in your Daily Prospect Report!
- We might be in line for another round of promotions as Rico Washington goes down for the season with knee surgery. Travis Hanson came off the DL but he’s not hitting a lick so the promotion of Juan Richardson and subsequently Allen Craig up the organizational ladder isn’t out of the question. The Cardinals may just decide to stick with Hanson and leave sleeping dogs lie.
- Bad Falkenborg, bad. He blew his 3rd save of the season in grand fashion while falling to 1 and 4. Brian allowed 3 hits and 2BBs good for 4 earned runs in the 9th inning.
- Andy Cavazos pitched a scoreless 8th striking out 1.
- Mike Smith had a lucky start. Despite putting 9 men on base (5 hits, 4BB) he only allowed 1 ER while striking out 5.
- Mike McCoy continues to hit. 2-for-4 with a walk.
- Edgar Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with a double.
- Tagg Bozied went 2-for-4 with a HR.
- Joe Mather went 1-for-4 with a double.
- Ouch. Springfield put the beat down on Midland tonight.
- Eric Haberer went 7 strong innings allowing 5 hits, walking 1 and striking out 4. The only run he allowed came on a solo HR in the 6th.
- I’m happy to report that Kevin Ool is back where he belongs — in the bullpen! He pitched a scoreless 9th allowing just one hit and striking out the side. Welcome back reliever Kevin. I’m not so hostile towards you when you’re in your correct place.
- Sean Danielson went 1-for-4 with a triple and a pair of walks.
- I love reporting on Colby Rasmus when he’s hot. He hits his 15th HR of the season plus another base hit and a walk. Splendid.
- Jarrett Hoffpauir continues to excel. He goes 2-for-6 and hits his 6th HR of the season. What more can he do?
- Mike Ferris even got in on the hitting action going 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and a pair of walks.
- Mark Shorey also homered for Springfield while going 2-for-3 with a BB.
- Bryan Anderson had a

- Q: How does a team record 16 hits and only score 5 runs? A: Only have 2 extra base hits on the night.
- One of those extra base hits I’m very excited to report about though. Brandon Buckman went yard for his first Palm Beach homerun. He also recorded 2 singles on the night.
- 3B Dan Nelson and SS Jose Contreras also collected 3 hits.
- Jon Jay went 2-for-5. Hopefully he can get on a role after having the better part of the first half derailed by injuries.
- Fernando Salas was doing quite well as a reliever. He had a 2.45 ERA with a 3:1 K:BB ratio. As a starter he’s terrible. Memo to the Cardinals: Not every reliever can start. With Gary Daley on the DL and Trey Hearne pitching himself into the bullpen they’ve stuck Salas and Robert Ransom in the rotation. It isn’t working. Too bad we don’t have anyone ready for Palm Beach in the Quad Cities. Salas allowed 5 runs in 2.1 IP.
- Donnie Smith threw some ugly middle relief innings.
- Matthew Trent is a reliever I like in Palm Beach. He went 2 innings striking out 1, walking 1 and allowing 2 hits for 1 unearned run. I wonder why he doesn’t get more innings. Instead they leverage other (read: bad) relievers in place.
- An ugly offensive night for the Swing. Tim Dorn and Jose Ramirez both get saddled with 3Ks.
- SS Christian Lopez went 2-for-4 and was the only player to have a multi-hit game.
- Brandon Dickson only made it 3.2 innings. 5 hits and 2 BBs makes for an ugly WHIP but he did strike out 6 batters while allowing 3 runs (2 earned).
- Blake King was on his game for the first time in a loooooong while. 3IP with no hits, 1 BB and 5 K. Well done, Blake.
- 3B Daniel Delasco had a banner night going 3-for-3 plus 3 walks. Somehow, his teammates failed to drive him in a single time.
- Batavia hitters were HBP 4 times.
- Batavia had 25 baserunners. 25! and they scored 7 runs due to a meager 2 extra base hits.
- Josh Mountain Dew allowed a hit and walked 2 in 1.2 scoreless innings. He did allow an inherited runner to score.
- Joshua Wilson got shelled.
- Jesse Todd got shelled but struck out 5 batters.
- Wayne Daman struck out 3 in 2.1 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 ER.
