• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Prospect Report 6/16/2007

Rick Ankiel goes boom. Allen Craig goes All-Star. The Quad Cities turns a triple play. We’ve got it all right here on today’s Daily Prospect Report.

Memphis 7, Iowa 5

  • It’s always good to watch the Cubs get beat. Or beat up. Or the baby Cubs get beat up. Today we’ve got all three. If you haven’t heard already, Rick Ankiel was a one man wrecking crew going 4-for-5 with 3 solo HRs. That puts him at 19 on the season (also known as 3 more HR than anyone in St. Louis).
  • Nick Stavinoha went 3-for-5 with a double.
  • Edgar Gonzalez went 2-for-4. At .292/.359/.424 it may be time to wonder if he wouldn’t be a better 2nd baseman than Adam Kennedy or Aaron Miles at this point.
  • Mike Parisi had a so-so outing. In 6 innings he allowed 8 hits and walked one. He “limited” the damage to 5 runs (4 earned) in part due to his 7Ks. Parisi’s got a good track record. If he can get the Ks up to his AA level, he’ll be able to post a 4.00-ish ERA.
  • Mark Worrell threw 45 pitches for 2 scoreless innings. He walked 2, allowed a hit and struck out 1 while lowering his ERA to 2.87.
  • Brian Falkenborg got his 15th save with a 1 hit,1 K outing.

Springfield 6, Wichita 5

  • Did anybody else notice that Bryan Anderson had drug his AVG back up over .300? He’s at .315/.367/.423 after a 3-for-3 night with 2 walks.
  • Casey Rowlett went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and a double.
  • Mark Shorey went 2-for-4 with a HR.
  • Cory Rauschenberger was crappy. 4 runs in 5 innings. whatev.
  • Jose Garcia and Zach Zuecher combined for 3 scoreless innings before turning the game over to closer . . .
  • . . . Chris Perez who then promptly lost his sh!t: strikeout, single, strikeout, walk, walk, walk in a run, groundout. Perez may have nasty stuff but he’s got some serious control problems that he needs to iron out before he sees major league hitters.

East All Stars 8, West All Stars 4

  • We’re the East.
  • Allen Craig goes 2-for-4 with a HR.
  • Mark Hamilton drew a walk in his only PA.
  • Adam Ottavino threw 1 inning allowing 2 hits, 1 ER and 1 K.
  • Tyler Norrick picked up the win with a one-hit scoreless 5th.
  • Luke Gregerson faced two batters. Both struck out swinging.
  • [edit by erik]–just thought this was interesting, Craig was named the MVP of the game, while Gregerson was named the pitcher of the game.

Quad Cities 3, Beloit 4

  • Brandon Buckman went 0-for-4 with 3Ks.
  • Luke Gorsett went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
  • Brandon Dickson went 5 strong innings allowing 2 runs (1 earned). He recorded 11 of 13 outs on balls in play via the groundball and struck out 2 against 2 walks and 4 hits.
  • Blake King is having a rough year. 2.2 IP, 2BB, 2Ks, 1ER. The walks just keep piling up.
  • Kenny Maiques blew his third save of the year. He allowed an inherited runner to score in the 8th and then gave up another run of his own.
  • Here’s the triple play from the Top of the 5th: Daniel Valencia grounds into a triple play, third baseman Wilmer Alvarado to second baseman Jaime Landin to first baseman Brandon Buckman. Wilson Ramos out at 3rd. Johnny Woodard out at 2nd.

  1. Completely random note, but Ankiel has the exact same swing I have. I haven’t seen enough of him to completely confirm this, but it seems he has a problem with midlevel pitches in on him.

Then again I may be getting ahead of myself, after all, I’m not a player, I’m an engineer :p.
