Crazy day. Now that the draft is over, I can take a deep breath and relax. Here’s what you have to choose from yesterday: Draft Day 2 thread, my interpretation of Luhnow’s comments to Goold, erik’s take on some day 2 picks.
- Rick Ankiel went 1-for-4 with a . . . wait for it . . . HR.
- Recently demoted Brian “I had no problems clearing waivers” Esposito went yard as well with 3 RBIs.
- Blake Hawksworth took the loss pitching 5 innings. He allowed 8 hits, 3 walks and struck out three while giving up 5 runs (3 earned).
- Chris Lambert and Mark Worrell each allowed runs in relief.
- Colby Rasmus went 0-for-4.
- Sean Danielson went 3-for-4.
- Joe Mather’s got the hot bat again. 3-for-4 night with 2 doubles.
- Juan Richardson went 2-for-4 with a double.
- Bryan Anderson went 2-for-4.
- Eric Haberer pitched 6 innings with a WHIP of just over 1.167 and an ERA of 4.50 for the game. He picks up the win with his quality start (yes, a 4.50 ERA is all you need for a quality start) striking out 5 and walking just 1.
- Matthew Scherer, Jason Motte and Chris Perez put up 3 scoreless inings. Scherer and Motte each struck out a batter while Perez struck out all three. Even better, Perez walked no one and all three strikeouts were swinging Ks.
- Boring night offensively. One standout: Jose Martinez went 2-for-3 with a HR.
- Tyler Norrick threw 7 innings striking out 6. Overall the pitchers two hit the Yanks.
- Kyle McClellan struck out 2 in his scoreless inning.
- Luke Gregerson picked up his 13th save.
- Chris Grossman went 2-for-4 with a double.
- David Solano was the only player to draw a walk for QC.
- Brandon Dickson threw 5 scoreless innings with 6 hits and 1 K. He recorded 11 of 14 outs on balls in play via the groundball.
- Blake King was so-so. 3 innings with 5 K is nice. He allowed an earned run but again walked 2 batters. He has some control issues to work on.
(Note: firstinning.com’s player linker seems to be having issues lately and the minorleaguesplits.com isn’t running right now. Apologies that the players aren’t all linked to their stats.)
