It’s offcially June and we’ve been spoiling you lately. ;o)
erik has his top ten prospects in the system after the first 2 months. I took a look at the pitchers in Palm Beach. And erik had some more draft info for you.
Quick note — Matthew Leach reports that Brendan Ryan may get a quick stint in the bigs. I have this irrational interest in Ryan. I really hope he takes advantage of this and does well — cause, well, he’s been pretty bad in Memphis so far this year. We’ll see.
Springfield and Palm Beach both had games postponed today so we’re just gonna check in on Memphis and the Quad Cities.
- I was REALLY SCARED to look at this box score because Anthony Reyes was starting tonight. 7 runs is not a good way to start your minor league demotion. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case. Reyes pitched 7 innings on 98 pitches. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits and no walks. He also struck out 4. Guess what else, more flyouts than groundouts. What do I have to say to that? You go, Kid Reyes!!!! Looking over Gameday, there’s a scary number of pitches in the fat part of the plate. I didn’t watch the start so I don’t want to draw too many conclusions from Gameday (which isn’t the most reliable of applications). Still, Reyes had what in the box line appears to be a dominant outing.
- Dennis Dove gave up 2 runs in 1.1 innings and Ryan Meaux (picked up as a released free agent in May) was rocked for 4 runs in .2 innings of work.
- The lone run came from J-Rod solo blast. He also took a walk in the game. If he gets — and stays — healthy, he should see time with the big league club this year.
- Brendan Ryan hit a double in 4 ABs. His line for the season stands at .243/.303/.318. The best of bad offensive options. . .
- #7 on erik’s prospect list makes him look smart tonight. Tyler Herron had a damn good night. In 5 innings of work, he struck out an impressive 8 batters against 2 hits and a walk surrending just 1 run.
- Brad Furnish got rocked in relief for 4 runs.
- Kyle Sadlowski picked up his second save after Gregerson blew his first last night.
- Daryl Jones went 0-for-5. They’ve got him playing LF with Pham in CF and this really bothers me. Jones needs time in center to improve his defense. Pham just needs time in the outfield after being converted. If it was me I’d let Pham start at a lesser defensive otufield spot and give Jones CF for a couple dozen games. . . I’m not sure I understand the logic here unless the team really considers Pham the better CF (which I guess is possible).
- Brandon Buckman went 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of walks. That’s three walks in 2 games compared to 10 in the previous 50 games. Let’s hope this isn’t an aberrant blip on his development path but an improved approach at the plate.
- Wilmer Alvarado collected 2 hits in 3 ABs.
- Tommy Pham went 1-for-3 plus a walk.
- Christian Reyes (DH-ing tonight) went deep for the second night in a row.
