Yiovani Gallardo of the Brewers did pretty much what he’s done all season, which is dominate the opposition. He struck out 10 Redbirds in 6 innings of work.
Blake Hawksworth went 6 innings himself. He wasn’t as dominant as Gallardo but did a good job. He struck out 5 in 6 innings, and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and a walk. One of those hit was homer. He also had 7 ground ball outs.
Rick Ankiel was the biggest victim of Gallardo, he struck out 3 times against the righty. He went 0 for 4 for the night.
Skip Schumaker went 2 for 4 with a double and struck out twice. His double was the only extra base hit out of all the Redbirds 8 hits.
Edgar V Gonzalez went 2 for 4.
Luther Hackman (!!!) picked up the save for the Sounds. I didn’t know he was still around, wonders never cease.
San Antonio (M’s) 3, Springfield 2
Kevin Ool started the game, many of you remember that he was the PTBNL for Mike Myers. He was a reliever and recently has moved into the rotation. Tonight at least, it looked like a good decision. He pitched 6 and a third innings, struck out 4 while 2 runs on a 4 hits and 2 walks. He had 11 ground outs.
Bryan Anderson went 2 for 4. He tied the game on a two run homer in the 9th, only to see Nick Webber cough up the lead.
Cody Haerther went 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts.
Colby Rasmus stranded 5 runners for the evening. He went 0 for 4.
Palm Beach 3, Fort Myers 2
Shane Robinson went 2 for 3 with a double.
Mark Hamilton went 2 for 3 with a walk.
Tyler Norrick had somewhat of a mixed start. In 5.2 innings, he struck out 5 and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and a 4 walks.
Luke Gregerson picked up his 9th save, striking out two and not allowing a runner.
QC 3, Fort Wayne 2 (10 innings)
Daryl Jones was the hero of the game by legging out a ground ball with the bases loaded to bring in the winning run.
Brandon Buckman went 2 for 5.
Former indy leaguer Chris Grossman went 3 for 5.
Christian Lopez went 2 for 4 and stole a base.
P.J. Walters started the game, going 5 innings while not allowing a run on 2 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 4 and getting 6 outs on the ground.
Sinker-balling Kyle Sadlowski was the piggy back starter, he had 8 groundouts to 1 fly ball. He only struck out 1 while walking 2. He coughed up the lead by allowing 2 runs.
Finally, Steve Batteson of the QC Times has an interesting article (and photo for that matter) of Eddie Degerman.
