Sean Danielson; an outfielder built in the David Eckstein-mold, was named the Texas League’s offensive player of the week. Danielson went 11 for 26 (.423) with 5 doubles and a HR. He struck out only twice. Danielson has hit .432 in 44 at bats since he’s been called up from Palm Beach.
Mark Hamilton took the honors for the Florida State League, he went 8 for 20 this past week with 3 homers and 2 doubles. That’s good for a .950 slugging percentage. I’d say that’s a good week.
P.J. Walters did not allow a run over 9 innings this week. He also didn’t walk a man, while striking out 8 and allowing only 5 hits. He was named the Midwest League’s pitcher of the week. I named Walters as one of my preseason sleepers. So far so good. He’s struck out 36 in 36 innings, while walking only 5 batters and having allowed just 1 HR. (That’s good for a FIP of 2.35) Nice. I’m not sure how long this success will last, as I’ve been told he’s a bit of a soft-tosser. He does have a nice slider and obviously good command, maybe he’s this year’s Trey Hearne.
