• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Prospect Report 5/5/2007

erik has the Quad Cities report as he attended their away game in Cedar Rapids today.

Memphis 4, Albuquerque 3

  • Brendan Ryan seems to be awakening from his offensive slumber. He went 2-for-4 today and hitting .341 in the last 10 games dating back to April 26th.
  • Question, if John Rodriguez is capable of filling in at CF and Ryan Ludwick can play there as well, why are Taguchi, Schumaker and Wilson all still on the big league roster.? I’d love for Walt Jocketty to go make a Billy Beane-like trade (see Ryan Langerhans, Chris “Doyle” Snelling and Jack Cust) but at this point calling up Ludwick would be enough. Rodriguez was 1-for-4 with a double playing an errorless centerfield today. Ludwick went 2-for-3 with an intentional walk and a HR. I am out of clever snipes to make about the punchless trio above - -it is just bewildering to me why Ludwick hasn’t replaced one of them yet.
  • Nick Stavinoha went 0-for-4 with 3Ks.
  • Mike Parisi threw seven strong innings on 76 pitches. He gave up 3 runs (2 via the longball) and struck out three without walking a batter. He failed to pick up the win, which fell to. . .
  • Mike Smith, who threw a scoreless inning with Brian Falkenborg picking up the save.

Springfield 1, Arkansas 0

  • I caught the end of this game on the radio. 8 shutout innings from Eric Haberer. 4 hits, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts and the win.
  • Chris Perez picked up the save despite a Izzy-circa-2006-like performance. He walked 2 in the innings and struck out one. He’s issued 6 walks on the season: 2 today, he walked the bases loaded back on the 27th and 1 more in an earlier game. It seems like every now and then he losses total command of the strike zone. From what the radio commentary was tonight, he didn’t just miss the plate but missed it by a healthy margin. That’s 6 walks in 11.1 innings which is distressing — take out those two nights and he’s walked 1 in 9.1 innings, which is much more palatable.
  • Juan Encarnacion went 0-for-3.
  • Colby Rasmus went 0-for-3 with 2Ks.
  • Tyler Greene had the lone run of the night with a home run in the 3rd.

Palm Beach 1, Sarasota 4

  • Nothing cooking on the offense as Shane Robinson led off with a walk in the first. A.J. Van Slyke would hit a line drive to Red’s uber-prospect Jay Bruce (who was hitless on the night with 2 Ks.). Allen Craig would single in the run and then Palm Beach would go softly into an offensively punchless night.
  • Adam Daniels pitched a good game but was bit by errors in the second inning: 3b Allen Craig had a fielding error, 1b Mark Hamilton had a fielding error and C Brandon Yarbrough had a passed ball. Daniels only allowed 2 earned runs but 4 runs total. He also struck out 5 and walked only 1 in his 4.2 innings of work.
  • Kyle McClellan and Jon Mikrut would through 4.1 innings of scoreless ball but the damage was done.

  1. you didn’t mention that ludwick had another 2 hits. and if you look back at j-rod when he was in the yankees organization, he played some years mostly in center. so i would think with him being in better shape this year, he’d be good to go.
