• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Daily Prospect Report 4/25/07

After my excursion to Arkansas this past weekend, I’m back with a Report! Day off for Memphis and QC.

Springfield 4, Wichita 3 (Royal’s Affiliate)

  • Juan Encarnacion goes 1-for-5 with a single. I’m concerned that the wrist injury is going to rob him of his power (see: Sheffield, Gary) and as that was his only discernable skillset, well, he’s liable to turn into a rotten pumpkin without it. He was already kind of a pumpkin.
  • Colby Rasmus goes 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
  • Jonathan Jay goes 2-for-5.
  • Bryan Anderson, off to one of the few good starts for Cardinal prospects, had an off night going 0-for-4 with 3 Ks. He looks like he could turn out to be a line drive hitting catcher with good doubles power. Every description of his offense I hear, reminds me of Mark Grudzielanek, but that’s a total gut comparison and probably wouldn’t stand up to any stringent analysis.
  • Tyler Greene goes 2-for-4 but still hasn’t seemed to turn those tools into consistent skill.
  • In 12.1 inning, Matthew Scherer now has a 0.73 ERA after two more scoreless innings.
  • Christopher Perez gets the win with a scoreless inning and a K.

Palm Beach 2, Daytona 7 (Cubs’ Affiliate)

Also, be sure to check out Kevin Goldstein’s assessment of the NL Central farm systems in this BP article (subscription required)– not too kind to the Cardinals prospects but not as harsh as it could be given the state of their minor league affiliates.
