- Rick Ankiel homered yet again, his 7th of the year. He went 2 for 3 with a walk.
- Edgar Gonzalez, Jolbert Cabrera and Rico Washington all went 2 for 4.
- Matt Ginter gave up 5 runs on 13 hits in 4.2 innings.
- Mike Sillman walked 3, gave up 1 hit and allowed 2 runs in 1.1.
- Trey Hearne was due for a good outing. Hearne pitched 7 scoreless innings, struck out 6 and allowed only 3 hits. He also didn’t walk a man.
- Allen Craig went 2 for 4.
- Dan Nelson went 0 for 2 with 2 walks.
- The Cardinal lineup had 5 hits and drew 3 walks in 5.1 innings against top Cub pitching prospect/ex-Irish wide out Jeff Samardzija.
- Ex-catcher turned closer Jason Motte struck out 1, allowed 1 hit and no runs while picking up his 3rd save of the season. For more on the transformation of Motte, click here.
- It was Andrew Miller’s day. No, not the #1 pick of the Tigers from last season. This Miller was picked in the 37th round by the Padres. He certainly looked like a 2nd day steal today, fanning 11 in 7 innings, walking just 1 and not allowing a hit. The Wizard pitchers combined for a 1 hit shutout.
- P. J. Walters pitched 5 innings of 1 hit ball, while K’ing 3 and not allowing a walk.
- Elvis Hernandez gave up the only run of the game, he threw 2.1 innings and gave up a 3 hits with no walks, while striking out 2.
