Azruavatar did an excellent job with the report yesterday, and since imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, I’ll upgrade my post today to look more like his. BTW, he’ll be working Wednesday thru Saturday, and I’ll be working Sunday thru Tues.
Just 2 of the 4 active farm teams had games today, here’s the lowdown:
Memphis 4, Oklahoma 1 (Rangers affiliate)
The good:
- Rick Ankiel and Brendan Ryan both doubled.
- John Rodriguez went 2 for 3 with a HBP and a HR.
- Nick Stavinoha hit his 2nd home run of the season, a 3 run shot in the 6th inning.
- Journeyman Matt Ginter struck out 5, allowed 1 run on 3 hits.
- The bullpen was brilliant. Mark Worrell, Troy Cate, Andy Cavazos and Brian Falkenborg combined for 7 K’s, 1 hit 1 walk and no runs over 3 innings.
The Bad:
- Tagg Bozied went 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts.
- Travis Hanson went 0 for 3. He is batting .071 in 14 at bats so far.
Frisco 4, Springfield 1 (Frisco is also a Texas Ranger affiliate).
The good:
- Not much good here. They were held to only 5 hits, 2 coming from Jon Jay out his 4 at bats.
The bad:
- Colby Rasmus went 0 for 4 with a fielding error and a strikeout. So far he’s hitting .083.
- Mitch Boggs allowed 7 hits in his debut, lasting 5 innnings. He struck out 3. Not terrible, but the hittable-ness of Boggs continues.
Outside of Joe Mather and Jon Jay, the Springfield lineup has looked as anemic as the St. Louis lineup. Maybe they’ll put up a 10 spot on some unsuspecting team soon like the Cardinals did today.

Rasmus will come around. I wonder if the stadium they are playing in is a pitchers park?
springfield woke up!
