Be sure to look below to read Ryan VB’s impressions of the Springfield club. Many of you know Ryan from Cardinals Diaspora and Turf Show Times and know what he’s about. Hopefully he’ll join us more in the season as our eye in Springfield.
Also, a couple other items of note-Chris Lambert takes Dennis Dove’s roster [...]

As a Cardinals fan, I can’t imagine a quieter day at the ballpark than yesterday. With the death of one of our own, the somber mood that hangs over the entire Cardinal family colored Springfield’s Sunday game against the Drillers as you might expect.
The games here are different than a lot of minor league games [...]

Per the Post-Dispatch:
Relief pitcher Dennis Dove has been promoted from Class AAA Memphis to the Cardinals after Josh Hancock was killed Sunday in an automobile crash in St. Louis.
Dove, 25, had an impressive spring in the Cardinals’ camp and was 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA in nine appearances for Memphis.
He will be in a major-league [...]

First and foremost, heartfelt condolences to the Hancock family, and to the Cardinals on the loss of Josh Hancock. What a sad and tragic loss. I don’t really know what to say, it hurts on a personal level because you see these guys and root for them, but you don’t really know them. Even so, [...]

Nate Silver introduced the PECOTA top 100 today, Bryan Anderson was rated the 38th best prospect with an upside score of 88.1. Colby Rasmus came in 65th. (See this post for more on upside scores and what they mean.)
Where the fit in with players who play their same position is interesting. Jaime Garcia’s upside [...]

Weekend before finals for me (and I graduate next weekend - scary) so we’ll just head straight to the report before I hit the books.
Memphis 11, Iowa 7
The Good
Mike Smith was in control for the first 6 innings allowing just one run. The 7th got away from him and Matt Ginter let two inherited [...]

Big news yesterday as erik wrote about earlier. It’s the right decision. Troy Cate could be atrocious as a starter for the rest of the year and this would still be the right decision. The economics at the big league level necessitate homegrown (read: cheap) players. Matt Ginter has zero chance [...]

Per Jim Masilak of Commericial Appeal:
Lefthander Troy Cate has been added to the Redbirds’ rotation and will make his second start of the season tonight against the Cubs. Cate, who pitched five shutout innings while making a spot start in the second game of a doubleheader April 15 at Oklahoma, replaces Matt Ginter in the five-man [...]

All four teams played today — with all the cancellations due to rain and such it seems like it’s been a while since that happened, or maybe it’s just me. Anyway, on with the report!
Memphis 4, Iowa 7 (Cubs’ Affiliate)
The Good
Ryan Ludwick was 2-for-4 and is batting .351 on the year. Question: Why hasn’t he [...]

After my excursion to Arkansas this past weekend, I’m back with a Report! Day off for Memphis and QC.
Springfield 4, Wichita 3 (Royal’s Affiliate)
Juan Encarnacion goes 1-for-5 with a single. I’m concerned that the wrist injury is going to rob him of his power (see: Sheffield, Gary) and as that was his [...]
