• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

New to Future Redbirds: Ross Detwiler Watch

Ok, so the guy is probably going to be on the board when the Cardinals have their pick, but as a person who grew up in Missouri always rooting for the local teams, I thought it would be fun to start the Ross Detwiler watch. For those of you who don’t know about Detwiler, he’s a certain 1st round draft pick this summer and could go high. A Wentzville native, he’s a 6 foot 4 lefty with a fastball in the 91-92 range that can top out at 94. He also had a very good curve ball. Last season for the Bears he started 14 games, threw 93 innings, allowing only 73 hits while striking out 99. He tossed a 1-hitter against Creighton in the MVC tourney as well. He went 2-0 with a .95 ERA and 22 K’s for the USA National team this summer, the team that won the FISU World University Championship in Cuba. Detwiler was named to the 2007 Clemens Award Watch list.

In his first start of the season, he had a career high 13 K’s in 7 innings against Dallas Baptist, allowing only 1 walk, 1 run and 2 hits. He retired the first nine batters of the game, 7 going down on strikes. He got a no decision, the Bears won the game 3-2.

  1. No way Ross Detwiler makes it to pick 18. He’s a 6′4″ lefty that can hit 95 MPH and has a good curveball and has put up the results. Those guys don’t last past the Top 15 too often.
He dominated last year, he dominated in the summer, he’s going to dominate this year.
If he is there at 18, which is highly unlikely, the Cards need to/will snatch him up.

  2. I read that the Orioles may be interested in Ross, with their #5 pick.
