• Amaury Marti Watch

Amaury Marti is currently hitting .424/.509/.633 in 39 games for the Mexican Red Devils of the Mexican League, also known as Liga de Amaury Cazana. Bud Selig ordered the Cardinals to banish him to there, in fear of the major leagues losing competitive balance.

Amaury also refuses to accept the watch curse. He has the power to curse, and the power to bless.

Yet another link post

Maybe I should make this a regular feature…lots of great reading /info concerning the farm team out there recently.
First of all the Memphis Redbirds rolled out new uni’s. The M on the cap sure looks like the “M” for Milwaukee. The jerseys are nice, though.

Derrick Goold of the P-D is fielding questions regarding prospects over at his [...]

A last look at batted balls-Relievers

(EDIT: Chart now added, and embarrassing gramatical errors mostly fixed.)
One last go ’round, this time the relievers. There’s a lot of guys I decided not to bother with, whether it was playing time, the player is now elsewhere as in the cases of Rich Scalamandre and Cory Doyne, or I just plain figured it was [...]

Sleeper: P.J. Walters

Here’s a guy you may have never heard of, but is a name you should probably know-P.J. Walters. He’s a right-handed pitcher who was selected this past draft in the 11th round and is the University of Southern Alabama’s all time strikeout leader (466), a feat he reached in 3 seasons. His freshman season he was the team’s [...]

Prospect Profile: Jose Martinez

Per Brock 20’s request, I’m taking a look at infield prospect Jose Martinez. Martinez was an undrafted free agent out of Venezuela and impressed in his pro debut. In ‘05 he hit .300/.387/.500 in a 150 at bats for Johnson City at the age of 19. That’s a nice display of power from a [...]

Link-o-rama

Just a few quick links:
Many of you have seen that I posted my list of the Cardinals’ top 15 prospects at VEB.
More VEB, lboros notes that the recent class of rookies has been the most fruitful group in years.
Brian Smith of Baseball Analysts continues his 5 part series on the top 75 prospects at SI.com. Colby Rasmus ranks [...]

A look at Mark Hamilton

Let’s take a closer look at power-hitting, left-handed first baseman Mark Hamilton. Hamilton was a supplemental draft pick in the 2nd round for the team losing Abraham Nunez. That’s a pretty good haul for a utility man coming off a career year, and a testament to why the compensation picks for type C free [...]

Prospects Ranked by Projected VORP

 Jon Jay
Colby Rasmus
Jaime Garcia
Cody Haerther
Tyler Greene
Chris Narveson
Nick Stavinoha
Chris Perez

These are not necessarily how these prospects would rank in the organization, this is just how PECOTA judges their recent work to project how well the player would fare in the majors.

Jon Jay and Colby Rasmus were separated by only one tenth of a point, though I’m sure we all agree [...]

Quick Linkage

Beyond the Boxscore has a profile of Dennis Dove.
The P-D has an interview with Colby Rasmus.
The Pecota’s are out, you have to have a subscription.. I will say that Colby Rasmus, Jon Jay and Jaime Garcia have pretty favorable projections, having more points of VORP then some of the guys who will have starting positions on the MLB roster. Jay in particular [...]

Meet your 2006 State College Spikes

Continuing the series of 2006 season wraps, it’s past time to go over the Spikes season. It turns out that it was the Cardinals’ lone rookie ball season at State College, but it was a memorable one.
The City: State College, PA. Pop. 38,420. Fun factoids about State College: Home of Penn State University, home of [...]

Some (free) Q & A from the Birdhouse w/club officials

Found these juicy scoops at the Scout.com message boards. It’s an interview with John Mozeliak and Co. It’s free, there’s some very interesting info there regarding the big club too, so check it out.  Here’s some of the minors’ info:
Q: How is the development schedule of Colby Rasmus coming?
A: He’s a 5-tool player that is on a fast track. One [...]

Ankiel back with a minor league contract

No, it’s not really news anymore, but the Cardinals have resigned Rick Ankiel to a minor league deal. Bernie Miklasz recently interviewed Jocketty on his radio show, and has this tidbit on Ank and his latest comeback:
on Ankiel: acknowledged that there’s sentiment for him, they like him so much personally and that factored into it. [...]

ZiP-id-ee-doo-dah

Even with new baby born, suprisingly I find myself unable to sleep tonight, so I may as well blog.  Dan Szymborski has his latest ZiPS projections out for the Cardinals, I found some of it interesting as far as some of the minor leaguers go.

The Cardinals are looking for another outfielder, but they may already [...]
